Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Kimball.
Hi Erin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The road of photography has been quite the journey, and it is only getting started. I first had the longing passion for cinematography, which included making short films. However, I made the switch to do photography instead my Junior year of High School. Ever since I got my first camera in the 8th grade, I knew that this was what I was meant to do. My style has changed drastically throughout the years and I changed my mind on what type of photography I wanted to do probably every day. One day it just clicked, and I took the leap to give away 3 free couples portraits this past Summer. It may seem like something so minute, but it changed everything for me. I absolutely fell in love with it and completely rebranded my entire business to specifically couples, engagement, and wedding photography. My drive to create photographs that capture authenticity and love has never been higher.
I now have my own unique style and purpose within this crazy world of photography.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. Being in a creative field the burnout is real. I have wanted to quit so many times, but I always find my way back each time. With each time of doubt and uncertainty it makes me want to work even harder to overcome that mindset. I have learned to step back, take a deep breath, and realize that I don’t just want to take pictures I need to. Photography has made me into the person I am today, so giving up just isn’t who I am.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I think I have done everything under the moon, all from portraits, animals, fashion, etc. However, I recently discovered what I really love to do and that is taking couples portraits. Capturing those authentic and real moments between two people who are in love is so magical. I feel like something that makes me unique is that I genuinely want to build a relationship with the couples I work with. This makes them feel more comfortable around me which then produces amazing photos. Another thing I love to do is play music during my sessions. Music really brings out the best in people and gives my couples a reason to have a little dance party! It helps relax everyone and minimizes any silence or awkwardness during the shoot.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
A characteristic that I feel has given me the most success is the willingness to get out of my comfort zone and try new things. Never in my life did I think I would end up doing couples and engagement photos. Without taking that leap of faith of doing something I have never done before, I probably would be in a great state of confusion on what my purpose is in the photography industry. Also, immersing myself within this industry has allowed me to slowly get over my anxiety of meeting new people. My nerves are a lot less, which then lets me just focus on creating beautiful photographs.
