Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Stewart.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Even before I became a Firefighter, local firefighters were already moving hot tubs from dealers and stores to the new owners. So, really the backbone of the company was already established. When I became a Firefighter back in the 1990’s, I learned the business and helped out when needed. After a few years of lifting these heavy tubs, the guys would get burned out and the company would change hands several different times. I just stuck with it and continued to be the helping hand.
Finally, in 2000, the business was going to be let go and no one was interested in keeping it going. The guys were getting older, having families and other obligations seem to always take precedence. I stepped up to the plate and took ownership of the business and in time managed to turn it from just contract labor to a real company. I named it FF Hot Tub Movers and based everything around customer service. I made a website, bought uniforms and redesigned all the equipment. Now, we not only move new hot tubs, but also move used ones that people buy and sell between themselves. Our motto is “you call, we haul”. To this very day, I try my best to return all calls within a 24 hr. period and answer all the questions a customer might have. On average I move anywhere from 10-20 tubs a month in addition to being a full time Firefighter. I enjoy helping people out whether it’s an emergency 911 call or moving a tub.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No real struggles other than people needing a move on a certain day and that day turns out to be my scheduled workday at the firehouse. I guess another struggle is if one of my coworkers or even myself gets hurt! This type of work is truly physical and can’t be done alone. There are times where 4 guys are needed to move a large heavy tub. It’s all about teamwork, technique and having the right equipment.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
FF hot tub movers is a small company and we specialize in moving hot tubs and spas only. This type of moving is dangerous, hard and demanding. These tubs are delicate and can be damaged by handling it rough. We are known for getting the job done right the first time and customer service is taken very seriously. After every move is complete I want to shake the customers hand and know in my heart that he or she is completely satisfied. I’m very proud to have repeat customers over the years. Usually we move a hot tub once maybe twice, but I have moved the same tub 4 times! It makes me feel good when a customer calls me time after time to move their same tub that I’ve moved in the past.
What sets us apart from others? I would have to say customer service. Listening what the customer wants and formulating a plan that everyone agrees on and then executing it flawlessly. Ending every job with a hand shake and knowing the customer is satisfied is very rewarding.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a military family and we moved around a lot. I was always the “new kid” and was shy. Even when I was young, I enjoyed helping people out. I’m a do-er, and like to be outside. Running this company allows me to be outdoors and to meet new people all the time.
My interest, other than Firefighting and moving tubs would be staying in shape by playing soccer. Currently I play on 4 teams and love the camaraderie with the guys. If not playing soccer and if the wind is blowing, then you can find me at the area lakes kite-surfing. Been windsurfing since I was 16 y/o and switched over to kite-surfing about 10 years ago and love it. It is my new found passion.
