Meet Mark Mitchell of The Starr Conspiracy in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Mitchell.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We wanted to break the mold for traditional advertising agencies. Most agencies burn people out and except employees to stick around for 2 years max.

We started with a simple premise – Agencies are a terrible place to work. We wanted to change that. We focused on employee satisfaction as a leading predictor of customer satisfaction. That allowed us to tune our organization so that employees are enabled to d0 their best work, unencumbered. This led us to several operational decisions, not the least of which was adopting agile operational philosophies. The major tenets of which state that team members doing the work are the ones best suited to estimate timelines and requirements to complete said work. Management’s role, when it has one, is to coach and remove obstacles.

We just threw our first retirement party. It rivaled our annual holiday party in size and scope. I mean it was big! How many other agencies even have employees that reach retirement before burning out or moving on?

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not!

It’s not easy to totally recreate how a business operates in an established, traditional industry. Nothing we do is done the way a traditional agency would do it. We got a lot of things wrong before we got a lot of things right.

Please tell us about The Starr Conspiracy.
We’re a full-service digital advertising agency working exclusively with Human Capital Management companies.

It feels great to go up against multi-national, award-winning, Madison Avenue agencies and win, time and time again.

It’s also great that our lights are on a timer. If you’re not out by 7pm, you’re gonna have a hard time finding the door.
