Inspiring Conversations with Vernetta Weston of Burgerlicious/V’s catering & Event Styling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vernetta Weston.

Hi Vernetta, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My passion for cooking begin when I was in college. In college, it was hard to find good home-cooked food. I started cooking every Sunday for my friends. Everyone would chip in for groceries and it grew and grew! That’s when I really realized how food really was good for the soul. How my food made people feel.

Several years after graduating from college I opened a bakery in Racine, Wisconsin Called Dessert Heaven. The landlord requested that I have some lunch menu items. I decided to add burgers to the menu, and that took off! People were coming to the bakery for burgers. I had to close the restaurant.

In 2016 I moved to Houston Texas. I always had a dream to open a food truck. I visited Austin in 2017 and was so inspired by all the food trucks. I decided to move to Austin and open a food truck. While working full time and running my catering business V’s Catering & Events I was able to save up for a food truck. Burgerlicious was born!

We began at UT Austin and slowly began to build clientele. We moved around a bit until we landed at Skull Mechanic Brewery. This is where we really began to get noticed. Bloggers, foodies, newspapers, everyone was catching wind of our great burgers. Business was blooming and we begin to look for a brick n mortar to grow.

everything changed when covid hit. The brewery closed and we had to close as well.

Once everything opened back up and the events that happened with George Floyd pushed people to support black businesses. We were overwhelmed with support. We purchased a second trailer and had two locations.

We were presented with an opportunity in Dallas and decided to move the catering business and Food truck to the DFW!

We are currently working on our first full-service restaurant in Lewisville Texas. Our proposed opening date is December 1st. We are very excited. We will have a B.I.P (burgerlicious important people) membership. Members will be able to enjoy the burger of the month and also the lemonade of the month with their exclusive membership.

The restaurant will include things like our fresh hand-squeezed lemonades, frozen lemonades, and our famous seasoning bar!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Covid has been the biggest challenge that we have faced.

We’ve been impressed with Burgerlicious/V’s catering & Event Styling, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Burgerlicious is our Gourmet burger Food truck. We specialize in hand-made burgers, fresh never frozen 100% beef. Handmade lemonades, and seasoned fries. V’s Catering focuses on event catering. We are known for our grazing tables.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck; I believe in God.

Pricing:

  • Catering starts at 16.00 per person
  • food truck prices start at 9.99 for a burger and fries
