Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Isom.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
About four years ago I started taking photos on my iPhone as a hobby. I love all things creative and capturing beautiful images of my surroundings. I began working in the wedding industry and always admired the photographers and their work. After saving up, I decided to buy my first camera and combine my love for weddings, people, and photography. For the past three years, I’ve been growing my business and really discovering my style. I have also coordinated styled shoots for other photographers in the DFW area to come and take photos this past year. Styled Shoots really utilize my skills as an event planner and a photographer and I love using my creativity to create beautiful images.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a photographer in the DFW area is definitely not easy. Photography is a booming industry in our area and there is a lot of competition. It took me a while to find my clientele and make sure my marketing reached new people. Luckily my parents have always been supportive of my dreams and have helped support me during times when work was slower.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I strive to make sure my photos are absolutely loved by my clients. It’s taken time to build my editing style but I love the mixture of bright and warm that I’ve created in my photos recently. I love working with different clients and trying new things. I want to make sure that every shoot I have is unique and different from the ones before. No matter the type of shoot, I want everyone I work with to feel special and have a fun and comfortable experience.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Part of being successful for me, that I occasionally neglect, is the business aspect of photography. I’m very right-brained and really struggled at the beginning with how to grow my business. I’ve definitely had to learn how to market my skills and work. Social media is such an important business tool in our generation for any business, but especially in the creative industries, and has made such a difference in my business.
