Hi Folake, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am Folake Soyemi, the owner of VFS Closet. I’m a fashion enthusiast and a vintage lover. I am that chic who loves to style vintage and modern pieces together effortlessly. My love for vintage, fashion, and style birthed VFS Closet and the brand name is initials of my name “Victoria Folake Soyemi” (VFS). I started the business February 2020 and the journey has been nothing but incredible. Initially, I started out with unique vintage and contemporary collections, but now I have incorporated ready to wear culture inspired pieces to the brand.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing in life really comes easy because life itself is a challenge. For my brand, the biggest challenge is managing my business with my full time job as a healthcare worker and being in school altogether. But no matter what, I still have to put in the work in order for my business to thrive. I am passionate about what I do, so it keeps me going. I love curating looks, sourcing for inventories because I always look forward to another unique piece I would find. Another challenge I had along the road was having to do the product shoots all by myself. For every listing that goes on the website, I used to model the clothes and take pictures of myself in front of the camera on a tripod, but now I have a team of people I work with that makes the work less challenging.

VFS Closet is a one-stop online shop that carries curated collection of fine vintage and contemporary clothing, as well as ready-to-wear clothing using quality African print fabrics. We aim to offer affordable fashionable pieces while promoting sustainability. We give second life to our vintage and resale items. The brand is a blend of both vintage and modern fashion. Every pieces from us are chic and timeless! We also offer styling and personal shopping services for any special occasions.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I am a cold-natured person, so I love it here in Dallas because of the weather.
