Today we’d like to introduce you to Drs. Tonya and Toya Harris.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The BluePrint was a dream that came to fruition much earlier than either of us anticipated. We always wanted to start our own chiropractic practice but decided to become associates at our mentor’s practice long before graduation. When the pandemic began it completely threw a wrench in our plans. A month before graduation, we lost our associateships and began looking for other offers. As we continued to search for new associateships, we never really found a place that we felt would allow us to practice the way we envisioned. After countless prayers, we ultimately decided on opening our practice together.
On February 22, 2021, we officially opened The BluePrint and haven’t looked back since. In the short time, we have been in practice, we’ve been featured by LegalZoom, BlackDoctor.Org, recognized by the Texas House of Representatives, and made an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. We also have a new location opening within the next week. We’ve truly been blessed beyond measure.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to opening our practice is not something we would describe as smooth. Our opening day was the Monday after the February snowstorms. As a result, we did not have internet or a fully furnished workspace for the first week. We did not see many patients our first week and were immediately terrified about the future of our practice. In addition to the storms, starting a chiropractic practice in the middle of a pandemic was not advised, but we made it work. The road was definitely not smooth. We aren’t sure if we would even describe it as paved. Starting a chiropractic practice in the middle of a pandemic was not advised, but we made it work. We knew that our ability to adapt would be pivotal to the success of our practice. Our business plan was strategically modified to offer in-home visits in addition to standard office visits. Becoming mobile helped us expand our reach. We attempted to keep those with chronic musculoskeletal issues and other neurological conditions out of hospital beds needed for COVID patients. Despite the challenges we have faced thus far, we have managed to build a substantial patient base all via word-of-mouth and are still growing.
As you know, we’re big fans of The BluePrint. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The BluePrint utilizes a scientific approach to get our patients back doing the things they enjoy most in life. We understand the intricacies of human movement that are needed to improve our patient’s function. Based on each patient’s story and their goals, we develop a unique treatment plan that is specific to them. The services we offer are: chiropractic adjustments, cupping, dry needling, myofasical therapy, rehabilitative exercise. We also offer prenatal chiropractic care.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Part of The BluePrint’s mission is to establish ties in the community we serve and create more opportunities for minority students pursuing careers in healthcare. We are currently partners of DISD’s Career and Technology Education program. Our goal is to expose students to high quality chiropractic care and help develop skills necessary to succeed in various healthcare professions, Within the next year, we plan to offer a scholarship to one male and one female minority student pursuing a doctorate in chiropractic.
