Check Out Barbara Carr’s Story

Hi Barbara, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Barbara Carr. I am a mother of two, wife, and entrepreneur. Coming up from nothing, I knew I was going to make something out of my life. Everyone has a story to tell, I’m just grateful that I was able to overcome and create new chapters. I landed a great paying job, got a promotion but I still wanted and needed more. I wanted my family to have the life I didn’t have growing up. I knew then it was time to turn my hustle up a notch. I always said I wanted to be a business owner and my own boss! I was able to save up and make an investment. I started selling hair extensions in 2018. In 2019 I decided to go to school and get my esthetician license. I was performing so well at my job, they granted me the opportunity to be able to go to class 2-3 times a week and still earn my full salary. I picked up a second job after that offering skincare services at Ulta Beauty. That was quickly shut down when the Covid pandemic happened and I stopped taking clients. I still had my hair extensions to sell, but then I decided I wanted to expand my brand. I now offer skincare services, hair extensions, wigs, waist trainers, apparel, and more! I’m always trying to expand my brand, so now I will be offering a brand ambassador program coming soon! I also offer meal prep services! I love to cook and during quarantine, I was cooking a little too much LOL. I decided I needed to meal prep and I would post my meals, and before I knew it my DMs were flooded with meal prep requests.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I had some struggles along the way. I’ve wanted to give up so many times, but I have 2 kids watching me. They keep me motivated, and I’ll never let them see me quit. There would be times where I would make 5-10 sales in a week to maybe 1 or 0 sales the next week. There would be times where I would run out of inventory and not have certain products a customer would want and I’d lose the sale. Sometimes I wasn’t even able to get new inventory right away, trying to make sure my household is good first. I kept pushing and kept learning from my mistakes. I wish it was a smooth road, but how can you grow and learn if everything is perfect? All my struggles have helped me get to where I am today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a licensed esthetician. I specialize in facials and body waxing. I also have apparel, bundles, accessories, and more to offer. I also offer meal prep services in the DFW. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come with my entrepreneurship. It’s definitely not for the weak. You have to be strong minded, goal-oriented, and motivated! It’s so easy to give up, but you have to want it bad enough to not give up! I’m set apart from others because I clap for others until it’s my turn. Any resources I have, I’m sharing them with others to help them win too. A lot of people out here don’t want you to get ahead of them or do better than them, that’s why I don’t have a lot of people cheering and clapping for me. But that doesn’t stop me from cheering them on!

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If you’re just starting out, my advice would be to not quit. You had a vision, now see it through. Don’t give up if you don’t have the love and support from the people that you want it from. There will be plenty of strangers out there rooting for you! Do your research on making sure your business is legal and legit and don’t be afraid to network. Make a business plan and set some goals, and don’t give up until you achieve them!
