Today we’d like to introduce you to Annette Jensen.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In the second grade, I knew I was destined to be a hairdresser. I started beauty school just 10 days after finishing high school, loving every minute of it. I was fortunate enough to work in very high end salons full of creative people and offering many levels of education. This passion led me to opening my own salon, first in Deep Ellum and then a move to Oak Cliff. I love being behind the chair, sharing my life with my clients and their lives with me. Helping people achieve their best look is most inspiring, and I hope to continue my passion for hairdressing for many years to come.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The hairdressing part has always come to me naturally. The business part of things has always been walking a tight rope. Finding the balance between creativity and structure has taught me focus and discipline. I’ve learned to manage and operate daily business procedures, strengthen my ability to hit confrontation head on, and also deal with the positive and negatives of the customer service world.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I own a hair salon. I also work behind the chair, full-time. Our salon is a high-end salon specializing in cuts color and offer micro-blading and soon we will offer spray tans. I am known for making people blonde. As a company, I am most proud of starting as a young woman and having owned my own business for over 17 years. We are a very conscientious group of stylists. We have integrity in regards to our work, and strive to be the best.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a small town, but went to my grandma’s house every weekend to play on her 40 acres in a national park. I was very lucky to have parents that loved nature. I was quite the tom boy, which people find hard to believe since I choose to make a living in a fairly superficial environment. But it honestly chose me. I was a cheerleader in high school and enjoy motivating people still to this day!
