Today we’d like to introduce you to Chantrice Tate-Jackson.
Hi Chantrice, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It was about two years ago when I decided to take my skincare into my own hands. I was tired of being ashy and dry due to eczema and having dry skin genetically. I also never like the steroidal creams prescribed by doctors. So, I went and bought a bunch of Walmart stuff and mixed it together. A coworker of mine at the time wanted to try my concoction and said he would buy it if I decided to sell it. Having the thought of running or owning a business was the furthest thing from my mind but if people were going to buy anything from me it would be my own formula. So, from trial and error Naturally ChoZen BeYOUti was formed. It is my goal to restore confidence in people by giving them their skin back and allowing them to be beautifully themselves hints BeY. O. U. ti Makeup on the other hand I’ve been dabbling in since I was 16, I’m 32 now. It started as a way to hide my insecurities but it then morphed into my art form and a source of therapy. I started practicing doing full faces when I was about 23 and I love it. Being able to take a face and enhance all of the features instead of creating a new person is my purpose.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This has been one of the toughest things to do for me considering that it is causing me to come out of the shadows and be the brave woman I’ve always wanted to be. There is no blueprint for me due to no one before me truly having their own business. Something that is purely created by them and because of that I’ve had to ride somewhat solo. It’s the times that you doubt yourself because you want everything to be perfect, learning how to market and promote yourself, becoming an overnight graphic designer, and last but not least pushing through no matter who isn’t looking and who stops supporting. I’m learning to push past my fears and doubts in order to make sure Naturally ChoZen BeYOUti Total Body Care LLC is known for products and not only work but are great for your skin. Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Being a person that loves science, it has been the bases for being able to produce products. I’ve been working in a diagnostic laboratory since 2014 but I’ve always been a Jack of many trades. I’ve been able to teach myself how to do most things beauty-related and my science background has helped bring that full circle. I would have to say I’m most known for knowing a little bit about some of everything but what sets me apart is I know I always have room to grow and learn more.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Taking risk is probably 85% of what it takes to be an entrepreneur. (That’s a loose percentage more like an educated guess.) It’s almost completely necessary in order to have a successful business. I tend to double dutch across the line between taking risk and being strategic. It was a risk to even start a business living in a different city from my family. To me, the biggest risk is doing something that won’t allow me to support the main character but instead be the main character.
