Meet Cameron Thompson of Dynamic Fusion Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Thompson.

Hi Cameron, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
If you asked me at age 10, what I wanted to be when I grow up, fitness was never even the slightest a part of the equation.

Bodies like mine are rarely celebrated yet acknowledged in the fitness industry, and so when I was approached to get trained a fitness modality, I immediately said yes.

But it kind of felt that I was saying yes to more than the certification, but a yes to many things. Yes, bigger bodies are worthy. Yes, fitness is for all bodies. Yes, dance is a common language. Yes, I can show up authentically myself and be proud of myself.

All of that YES, was finally answered with Dynamic Fusion Studio. An online fitness studio for women who like Hip Hop, Rap, and Latin music looking to gain body confidence through dance cardio, and toning.

I’ve learned so much about myself creating Dynamic Fusion and how women are eager to be active but don’t see bodies that look like them! There’s always this pressure to thin down, get smaller, shrink, and that’s not the #1 goal of Dynamic Fusion. And hey, honestly, I’m not for everyone, and that’s okay, but at DFS you are seen and heard as you are.

Before the pandemic, I was renting a space in Fort Worth weekly, just starting up my classes with sprinkle of clients here and there but continuously growing. Of course, the pandemic came and I lost my way with my business. I wasn’t sure how to navigate on-demand fitness classes, so I would just pop up on lives and invited anyone to come and sweat with me. The process has been new, terrifying, and exciting but now I offer on-demand fitness programs and free dance routines on YouTube. Still learning…still growing!

There’s a lot of exciting things I’m planning for 2022, and can’t wait to continue the ratchet and spice workouts!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Man, this is roughest road I think I’ve ever experienced!

The pandemic was a major setback, I was just starting to find more consistency in my little baby small business and right after we recorded my promo video, we were on lockdown.

I did lose my way with my business. I also lost a little bit of myself too…I had an increase of anxiety, crying fits, low low moments. I found my way back by taking a walk in the dog park. The dog parks lead to me running, and the running lead be back to dance. Weird full circle, right?

Now mind you, all these things are happening in my own personal journey and social media starts transforming with the introduction of TikTok and Reels. I don’t want to say I regret not jumping on those trains sooner then but man it felt like I missed the train!

I think a constant block is simply me existing in my body. Fitness industry is all about your body being your business card, and that saying is just old and tired. So not only am I promoting movement, body confidence, and body acceptance, but fighting against an industry that says I can’t play in their sandbox. Talk about daily doses of rough roads sometimes!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Dynamic Fusion Studio is a safe space that promotes body positivity and body confidence through dance cardio and toning workouts!

If you’re looking for workouts to Taylor Swift, you won’t find that here! No offense to Swifty fans. We get grimy, sexy, and theatrical to Hip Hop, Rap, and Latin music. It’s about being comfortable to move our body without judgment or fear. There are no wrong moves, just wrong attitudes.

What sets me apart from others is that there’s nothing like this in Fort Worth! I also empower women through physical fitness and mental/emotional fitness. We have become so obsessed with how working out makes us look, we forget about how it makes us FEEL. It’s something I really bring forward is that working out is supposed to be fun and not tedious.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I’m not a Fort Worth native, but I’ve been here for almost a decade and I really do love this city! There’s so many different parts that give you a variety of experiences from art, food, music, nightlife, and events.

Actually, what I like least about my city is the fitness scene. Maybe, I am one of those people that talk about fitness all the time, but the scene is very single note. Zumba, yoga, cycling…. that’s pretty much it. Maybe this is actually a good thing for me, but it’s definitely something that the city is lacking.
