Check Out Ji’Tajiah Carter’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ji’Tajiah Carter.

Hi Ji’Tajiah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I was 16 years old, I found a passion for beauty. I loved switching my hairstyles up and doing any type of pampering that would leave me feeling even prettier. My beautician always made me feel great and I wanted to be a part of making other people feel the same way! I started out with the braiding and that is what where I began to grow my clientele for about 4 years. Over that time period, braiding was only a side hustle. Though I loved what I did, I had made plans to go to college because I honestly let others’ perception of my dream deter me from initially pursuing beauty as a career. I was taught that college was the way to go and that I should find a career that is more “stable.” For a while, I accepted this to be the only way to be successful until I accepted the truth that I could be successful in where my heart was leading me. After graduating high school in 2019, I worked in a shop as a braider (U Salon De in Duncanville, TX) over the summer until it was time to start my first semester of college. I planned to attend and graduate college to please my family, then if I still wanted to do beauty, I would pursue it after. However, after possibly 2 months of miserably attending classes, I decided I was going to do what I felt was best for me. I dropped out and started taking clients again until the pandemic hit a few months later.

Though COVID-19 hit hard for a lot of businesses and families, it completely changed my life for the better. I was set to start classes at Paul Mitchell that fall and I took a lash training course with my mentor, Brittaney McMillan (Owner of Lash Bause Beauty Bar) before the summer. I practiced every single day on lashing. I started taking clients for $30 until felt comfortable in my quality of work to charge more. I did this along with doing hair for 6 months until I had enough clientele to do lashes full time. Fast forward to a little over a year later, I am now a part of an amazing shop (Lash Bause Beauty Bar in Dallas, TX) working alongside my mentor! I have a very consistent, loyal clientele that I LOVE and they stuck beside me throughout my journey. I love what I do and I thank God for blessing me with the gifts He has given me. It’s such a great feeling to make money while doing something that you are passionate about. I put my heart in my business!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It wasn’t a smooth road, but I can’t really say I had any really bad struggles outside of the common ones that every lash tech experiences like bookings being really slow sometimes. To me, the hardest part is pushing through that and not giving up. This is my main source of income so if it’s not going smooth, it can be tempting to quit or dedicate less time to it for a job & steady income.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I offer all esthetic services: lash extensions, body/face waxing, and facials (including vajacials + back facials). I am known for lash extensions & most of my clients’ book lash services. I also offer pamper packages that allow you to book multiple beauty services in one appointment!
