Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Gray.
Hi Karen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Absolutely! I’m a wife, mom, Mimi, coach, podcast host, and friend above all… I believe everything that happens in our lives is happening for us and that my life has been preparing me for the journey I am living today!
As a coach, my journey actually began in 2008 as a speech and confidence coach in the rodeo queen pageant industry. What started as a necessity to help my daughter when her coach was tragically killed in an auto accident, evolved into a part-time way to financially support her pageant competition dreams. I quickly realized that my passion to serve others and empower them to step into their greatness could be realized as a coach! Today, that unexpected opportunity has completely blossomed into what I believe to be my life’s calling and purpose. I wake up every day ready and excited to have an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life.
Along the way – between the tragedy and triumphs, I spent 29 years in the Financial Services industry. Thirteen of those years I was an Independent Financial Advisor which taught me so much about serving those who are self-employed or needing Business and Entrepreneurial Coaching because I lived that experience myself.
My financial background was actually the catalyst in transitioning my pageant coaching into business coaching and in 2019 I decided to take my coaching to the next level by obtaining the industry’s highest level of training and certification. I attended the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC), which is an amazing program for anyone considering a serious career as a Certified coach! I now have achieved the International Coaching Federation’s designation of PCC (Professional Certified Coach) along with IPECs CPC and ELI-Master Practitioner designations which have been a tremendous and humbling honor. In December 2020, I partnered with the Coaching Services International (CSI) team as an internal Business Performance Coach, coaching the coaches of the #1 International Real Estate Coaching Company.
I recently Co-Authored a book, “Manifesting Queens” where I shared my story and mission of Manifesting my Dreamlife and Career. I have another book coming soon that’s about optimizing your business marketing strategy.
So whether I am speaking, interviewing guests on my Rock Movers or DFW Business Builders Podcasts Consulting with Entrepreneurs or Coaching, I always want to empower others to elevate their mindset so they too can discover and achieve their life goals and purpose.
I really do believe that my calling and the reason God put me – is here to serve others as a coach.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I believe that perspective is everything, so with that said, was the road I walked smooth? Of course not! I don’t believe it’s meant to be. The struggles, challenges, rocks, and potholes are what help us grow, become stronger, more resilient and it’s the tough times that provide us with the lessons we must learn in order to become the person we are meant to be, so we can accomplish the mission we were created for.
So yes, the journey or road I am on has been filled with many potholes AND lessons:
– Being Adopted – this journey filled my life with trauma, pain, abandonment issues, and unanswered questions – But it also gave me two families to love and the beautiful gift of learning that family is also the people you choose to love as well as the people who choose to love you.
– An abusive relationship – which left emotional, mental, and physical scars – But it also taught me that I am resilient and I can handle anything that happens. I also learned that I don’t have to handle tough times or difficult situations alone! This part of my journey gave me compassion and empathy for women who are in this situation and gave me the courage to speak out against domestic violence.
– An unplanned teen pregnancy – which totally changed the trajectory of what I thought my future would be. It also taught me the consequence of allowing others to influence my choices as well as how I felt about myself and my own personal value. But ultimately, it gave me the beautiful gift of my first son.
Of course, there were so many more bumps and rocky roads that I traveled on, but my point is that none of them were truly bad… they were all simply paths and lessons I needed to learn to be WHO I am today!
As you know, we’re big fans of Gray Coaching. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Thank you so much!! I really want everyone to know that my brand is an extension of my calling which is to serve authentically and add value to your life regardless of how we connect.
In addition to coaching my clients with mindset, confidence, and limiting beliefs – I help my clients become profitable. My specialty is helping other coaches who are struggling to find clients or make a living with their current coaching business. My platform is about helping others embrace their unique gifts so they can live and serve others authentically. This means aligning their Core Values, Purpose, Calling, Gifts, Talents, and Experience with their Passion. When you are energetically and authentically aligned to who and what you were designed to be – business becomes easier but we all know that if you don’t have a great Marketing Strategy, Branding, and Systems in place to help you find and serve your clients, you’ll soon be out of business and won’t be able to serve anyone.
Ultimately I think the gift of my brand and my business, is my intuitive ability to serve my clients authentically and empower them to have a balanced, purpose-filled life and profitable business.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My absolute favorite childhood memories were always centered around the holidays. Our home was the place that everyone gathered. All of our extended family, as well as the single men or young families who were too far away from their own families to travel, would join us. You see my dad worked for a gas company called EPNG in North Western New Mexico and our family lived in the company housing camp which was on the Navajo Reservation near Chaco Canyon. It was a fantastic place to grow up as a kid and the holidays were the BEST!
My Mom and Dad would cook the Turkey and Ham and everyone else would bring their favorite dish. We would have everything and anything at that meal from Navajo Tacos or Tamales to the traditional dishes of the holiday. Our house was loud and chaotic and PERFECT! We would have enough kids for a football team or bike rally around the camp. There was never a lack of people to play with. But my favorite part of the entire holiday – was when evening came and everyone would gather in the living room to watch movies on the 8mm projector. We had a whole family of comedians (even though some were unintended) and they would make their own home movies. I don’t think I have ever laughed as much as I did during those holidays.
I think these memories are so special for a few reasons,
1) Because I knew I was adopted, the concept of belonging to a family meant so much to me.
2) So many of the people who are in those memories are gone now – so they hold an even more precious place in my heart.
3) This is truly where I developed the foundation of welcoming, serving, and accepting others. It didn’t matter what someone looked like, where they came from or what their story was – EVERYONE was welcome in our home, especially during the holidays.
This was always modeled for me and is something I still value, treasure, and do my best to model daily in my own business.
