Check Out Angela Hamilton-Scafe’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Hamilton-Scafe.

Hi Angela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Starting from a young age I knew I was always different and didn’t want to be like anyone else. When I was in school, I was bullied for my heritage and for wanting to be different. I didn’t let that hold me back. My mom raised be to be a strong independent woman and be proud of who I am, and who I will become. Before starting my Small Business Wandering Sense Creation, I needed to fine my path. As every young person, I had my ups and downs. I survived an abusive relationship that almost took my life when the doctor told me one more punch and we wouldn’t not be having this conversation, it was at that moment I knew I had to change where I was heading. I had hit a wall and that wasn’t going to stop me. I went to college and started become who I am today. I have a passion for animals, for helping people, photography, and now making soap. Having parents who had jobs that let them travel all over the world really opened my eyes to some amazing things, and those things I carry still with me today. I’ve been living on a farm now since 2005 has been an exciting adventure with helping our animals, and watching our farm grow. In 2018 I was once again hit with a brick wall; I was diagnosed with Lupus SLE which brought my world to an unexpected halt, but that didn’t stop me. I learned to work around it. That same year I needed an outlet to help with my anxiety and depression. I started making handmade soap! Now owning my small business, doing shows, and running my Etsy store I have found a passion for a different form of artwork that people love. I still travel, I still wrangle cows, I still live my life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Getting started with a business is never easy. It started as a hobby and giving as gifts. They said, “you should start making these and selling them.” So, I did and haven’t looked back since. Some struggles were learning different ways of making products, all the rules, the guidelines; but most of all not losing myself in the process. I wanted to keep being me, being unique, and standing out from the crowd. To this day I have kept doing that. During my time making soaps, I worked full time for the Department of Commerce and oversaw 300+ employees while traveling to New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Montana all during covid-19. During this full-time job, it was challenging to run my business, a farm, and kept to a spiritual routine, but I overcame it and grew along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I make handmade soap and not the kind you buy at the store. I am known for creating art with places from around the world in my soaps, decorative detailed soaps, and keeping in touch with me nerdy side. I want someone to look at my soap and have the soap tell them a story. I am most proud of all my soaps, when I create them, I want them to be something that is like me different, and unique. I’m also proud from where I started in life, to how much I have accomplished. I don’t have many friends but the ones I do have raise me up. What sets me apart from others is I don’t have a filter I say what’s on my mind, and say it like I see it. I respect everyone I meet and will help them if I can.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I love to read true crime books, history books, and inspirational stories. The main book I go to in my life is the Bible, raised as a Christian, it has helped me in many ways, and given me so many blessings.
