Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Egbert.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We moved to Fate, in 2017, after my husband retired from the Air Force and opened a home decor business working out of our home. We quickly started discussing the idea of opening a brick-and-mortar shop, but we wanted to add something special to the mix. Once we decided to add ice cream, we spent the next 2 years researching, drawing up plans, talking to the City of Fate, testing recipes, and preparing to open. During the course of the planning, we slowly realized that ice cream would be our sole focus. In all of our previous business ventures, providing a top-quality product has been our main goal. It was no different when learning about the ice cream business. We decided that we wanted to maintain full control of our product by making it ourselves using a high-quality dairy mix from Oak Farms Dairy in Dallas. We churn it to be a premium ice cream and use as few ingredients as possible to get our flavors. The way we incorporate our ingredients, which are always top-quality products, and that we make the product on-site, is what makes us stand out in the field. We chose to open in the City of Fate because we are Fate residents, we are excited by the growth that is coming to the city and we truly wanted to be a part of our community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our biggest challenges were the Covid shutdown, opening during the slow season, being the first business in a new building in a small town, and building the business from the ground up. The shutdown pushed our opening date to the end of September 2020. In the ice cream industry, August is the beginning of the slow season as Fall and Winter set in. We were the first retail location to open in the brand-new building that had just been completed and Downtown Fate was not a heavily trafficked area at the time as there were only a handful of other food-based businesses located there. In addition to those challenges, we literally built this business from scratch after a lot of research, planning, and learning something new day by day.
We’ve been impressed with It’s Fate Creamery, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My husband and I are the owners of It’s Fate Creamery. We specialize in premium ice cream, Italian ice, and edible cookie dough all made on-site in our shop. We use quality ingredients to create a quality product that is different from other ice cream shops in the area. We are quickly becoming known for the abundance of flavor in our ice cream, our Italian ice as a dairy-free option, and great customer service. Personally, I am most proud of the fact that we jumped into this venture without knowing if it would work or how it would be accepted by our community and we are seeing success; even if it is slow-growing. I am also extremely proud of our staff and the team we have built. I believe what sets us apart from others is the way in which we create our products and that they are truly homemade.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
We love local collaborations! We have partnered with other local restaurants that now serve our ice cream for dessert. We have partnered with schools and other groups/organizations in hosting spirit nights as well as buying cookies from Girl Scouts to support their troops and bring something special into the shop for our customers. We have more partnerships in the works and look forward to seeing those come to fruition. If there are people that think our ice cream would be a great paring for their needs or with their products, we would love to chat about the possibilities! Simply contacts us via Facebook or give us a call.
We appreciate all of the support we have been blessed with thus far. How can people continue to support us? Come in for a scoop, bring your family, tell your friends, and spread the news!
