Rising Stars: Meet Nichele Wells

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nichele Wells.

Hi Nichele, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Well, for starters, I have the “gift of gab”! What I mean is, I love meeting and talking to new people. In fact, I have over 16 years of experience in sales, recruitment, relationship building, and social media marketing.

Over the years, I have watched too many small businesses struggle because of lack of knowledge of how to navigate marketing on social media platforms and lack of time invested in promoting their business. So then, I decided to use my recruitment, sales, and marketing skills into podcasting and promoting these small local businesses.

In 2019, I started my own podcast, Hitting the Streets. My initial goal was to share the happenings in our town. However, when Covid-19 hit I switched gears and decided to host a series of interviews with business owners, entrepreneurs, and nonprofit organizations and give the listeners an inside look at each guest’s organization.

Currently, I have almost 5000 plays and just recently acquired my own studio for more live shows and events.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I wouldn’t exactly call the road “smooth.” Challenges and struggles are an expected part of the process. In fact, I would call them “opportunities for growth.” For example, I struggled with having the courage to even start my podcast. I know that many people can relate to the fear of failure. But I thought to myself “even if my only listener is a fence post, I would still do my podcast.” And with that, I got over my fear of failing and just took a leap of faith…

Another struggle is just having not-so-great equipment. But one day out of the blue, someone whom I had previously inspired, gifted me with new equipment. I remember the many tears I shed. I was so overwhelmed! It was truly an act of kindness and generosity.

To no one’s surprise, the impact of Covid-19 also created a huge struggle. But I’ve managed my interviews well through Zoom and over the phone.

Currently, audio editing is still a struggle but I’m learning and improving this skill.

We’d love to learn more about your work. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
As I mentioned, I am a recruiter. Specifically, I specialize in medical and admin recruitment and am known for finding those “rare gems.” Recruitment has taught me so many lessons such as you need to be quick, you need to manage your time wisely, you need patience, you can’t please everyone, and you learn that not everyone is reliable. In the recruitment business, you get to know people on a deeper level about their situations and walks of life. Sometimes, you get to know the challenges that they face and the tough times that they are going through. My experience has broadened my listening skills and being more considerate of other people’s circumstances.

Why do I keep going? It’s the satisfaction of knowing that I am an integral part of building something bigger than myself that keeps me going. And of course, my support system, my family, and friends.

I am most proud of my tenacity and what I have accomplished so far. There were many times I could have given up, but I worked hard and pushed past every hurdle on the road.

Passion, strong vibration, integrity, and self-expression sets me apart from others.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
In 2005, I sold easy-to-prepare mixes of soups, dips, and desserts. And what seemed to be happenstance at the time, someone approached me about a recruiting job. She told me that she loved how I handled this business, my go-getter attitude, my sales skills, and especially, my people skills. We discussed recruiting which piqued my interest and the next thing I knew I got a job offer!

Recruiting has taught me mental toughness, hard work, perseverance, patience, growth mindset, and optimism. It has taught me what it takes to succeed, and I apply this mindset to my Hitting the Streets podcast. You can find new episodes every Sunday on Anchorfm, Spotify, Google, and Apple podcast.
