Meet Alton McKinley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alton McKinley.

Hi Alton, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I have been in Rowlett for the last 5 years but the journey to this stage has been rooted in me since I was a child raised by my grandmother. My grandmother spent her life taking care of others no matter who they were, she wanted to make sure they had what they needed and understand who God was as it related to her life and their life. I have tried to imitate that for the last 30 years and even more so the last 2 years as COVID has had an impact on some lives. We have effort to ensure that seniors and other who did not have enough at least had bare necessities from week to week. My hope is to continue to be a blessing to those who are in need.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road but anything worth doing is worth putting forth the effort to ensure the task at hand is accomplished. In this current climate funding and space continue to be the major factor.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have had the unique opportunity to work in Family Ministry with church organization and at the same time, I was a CFO at a large medical faculty in Amarillo and Dallas. The last 5 years have served as a Lead Pastor for Rowlett Friendship Baptist church where we have partnered with local schools to support and encourage students. We operate a food pantry, assist community leader with diversity recognition celebration, and assist with disaster recover. As a CFO I manage a $1.2 billion dollar budget, I am also one of the lead mentors responsible for mentoring professional across the organization, and I am also a part of the executive leadership time working on efficiency improvement across the organization. Finally, I am in my second year of my pursuit of a Doctrine in Leadership at Liberty University.

Any big plans?
I want to teach leadership from the standpoint of a servant leaders. I want to expand our ability to serve those in our community that are in need of many different service such as job training, education, medical and dental access, and mental care.
