Today we’d like to introduce you to Lawrence Carrington.
Hi Lawrence, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Growing up I’ve always had a passion for music and for film. I believe my path truly started at the end of my high school career. During high school, I created a martial arts demo team and we would perform at school pep rallies and also, we were a part of the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Administration) foundation and would perform at the cowboy’s stadium. During this journey, I connected with a friend who was attending SMU for film and needed someone to choreograph fight scenes for his short films that he was submitting for film festivals. This was a great venture as we were able to win multiple awards all around the world and I was able to build relationships with other creative people. During our off-season of filming, I fell more in love with music, and at that time my cousin was wanting to try and take his career more seriously, so we started the journey of building and connecting with different artists in our area which ended up allowing us to travel and connect with artists from LA, New York, and Atlanta. During this process that is when the Idea for my LiveHouse project was sparked.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My path hasn’t been smooth at all. It has been met with a lot of twists and turns and sometimes I had to take a few breaks in order to refocus my mindset. The main struggle with trying to build and create is sometimes making sure that you have the right people apart of your team. I learned that you can’t expect people to be as passionate about your projects as you are, but it’s always great to have people who at least care. One example is when I attempted to shoot my first LiveHouse series back in 2015 I was extremely excited and we had artists from all genres be a part of this amazing experience, but the production team at the time wasn’t able to deliver the type of quality I was needing, so it took a lot of time finding the right people to be a part of my team to create something that we could all be proud of.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have always done my best to wear many hats and to learn as much as I can. I have been a Fight Choreographer for films, I have helped develop artists, and I have been a part of non-profit organizations and helped put together events for the community. At this moment I am currently the director of my LiveHouse music series which was developed in order to help highlight local talent in my city and soon other cities as well. I truly love to create and develop new projects that inspire others.
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is when you find balance in your life.
