Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Hines.
Alexis, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2013, my husband and I welcomed a beautiful, bright-eyed, baby boy into the world. From the moment he entered our world I became his biggest fan – and with that I was constantly snapping pics of him with my mediocre iPhone camera. I enjoyed taking his picture so much that I decided to invest into a DSLR that would end up my fulfilling my vision of those warm photographs that would end up filling our home. (Yes, I am a mommy-made-pro or so to speak) My little boy was definitely my muse!
I began taking his pictures and posting them to social media, and then I started receiving requests to take family and close friends pictures as well. Pretty simple story.
And the rest is history, Alexis Hines Photography was born.
My photography ranges from first birthday cake-smash sessions, to the beautiful mom-to-be session, all the way to a full day of wedding bliss. I love being a Lifestyle Photographer because I get to send you home with memories that last a lifetime. You hang these photographs in your home, wrap them as gifts, and laugh or cry at them years down the road. It is a pretty special “job” I have and I feel humbled and blessed to be able to do this every day.
So, with the support from my AWESOME God, Family, & Friends I decided to start Alexis Hines Photography. This has seriously been such a wonderful journey and I can’t wait to see where else it takes me and who I meet along the way.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I am a mom to two young boys (with another little one on the way). Fortunately, I have the ability to stay-at-home with them during the week. My photography business (and my incredibly hard-working husband) has given me the opportunity to be home with my boys and I am absolutely grateful for that.
Some days though, I have this unsettling guilt that when I need to edit or be in the office, I don’t give my boys enough attention or when I am away from my home-office, I am not giving 100% to my business. It has been a struggle to find that balance, but I make it work and just think to myself – “I love my family and I love this job, and that’s enough!”
Alexis Hines Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As the Sole-Photographer, Editor, and Owner of Alexis Hines Photography, I am a Lifestyle Photographer specializing in natural light photography.
The photography side of my business is known for a range of children portraits, family encounters, to whimsical maternity sessions, and all the way to the memorable wedding day.
The relationships I have made along this journey are absolutely what I am most proud of. I love becoming friends and watching these families, couples, or young children’s story unfold. It is the most rewarding feeling.
What also sets this company from other photography business is that I also offer editing-services to the busy Wedding Photographer, that need reliable help with editing, retouching, and freeing up some of their work-load.
As a Professional Photographer I spent more of my time in Lightroom then I did actually in the field taking photos. Do you want to hear something bizarre? I kind of love it. A LOT. I love editing. I love how I can tell a story with color correction, mood, composition, and of course the photographer’s eye. Every photographer is an artist. They have a certain editing-style that makes their photographs unique and theirs. I value that. I want to specialize in the photographer’s editing style so I can deliver the photographer a perfect workflow every time.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success, is a feeling to me. A feeling of joy, pride, and passion. I believe we can make a living being wrapped up in the idea of what success means, but I think success doesn’t come from materialistic pleasures. Success comes from your perspective of what a life well-lived means to you and for you personally.
I feel successful in this point in my life because of who I have supporting me and the joy I feel each day.
