Exploring Life & Business with Sam Davis of Fit Tribe Gym

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Davis.

Hi Sam, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My wife and I have been business owners in the wellness and fitness space for about 15 years. First with outdoor fitness camps in 7 DFW area cities, and corporate fitness programs with companies like Lockheed Martin, Ben E Keith, Alcon, and more. Then with endurance races- our most popular being the national series, Wicked Wine Run. We had been very successful and, more importantly, loved helping others discover the fun in fitness.

During the first year of the pandemic, races, festivals, and concerts were completely shut down by local and national authorities. We were used to producing an event every few weeks all around the US. When that suddenly stopped it gave us a lot of time to slow down and think about if we wanted to explore other opportunities in business while we waited for live events to come back safely.

In late 2020, my passion for fitness programs led me to create a concept of a fitness facility unlike anything we had in our city. By March 2021, we opened the doors to Fit Tribe Gym. Our 1.7 acre indoor/outdoor facility features a large indoor group training studio., 1 Acre of grassy outdoor workout space, private one-on-one training room, co-working space free to all members, self-serve juice bar from locally owned juicery, and our own Fit Tribe Nutrition brand of clean, whole food-based supplements.

It’s been a crazy and rewarding 8 1/2 months. But in that time, we’ve created a community filled with a diverse group of people who challenge each other, cheer for each other, who make you better, who make you happy…we’ve got plenty of that here. Fit Tribe is a really supportive and motivational place with fun, energizing activities to helping women and men in our community reach their fitness goals fast.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finding just the right property was challenging to say the least. After a couple of months of looking through traditional commercial real estate search methods, we reached out to our personal realtor to ask for help. Within a few days, she knew a friend that was offering up a property that was a great fit.

Building out the space from its former welding warehouse glory was no small feat. Contractors bailed, canceled and no-showed. Fortunately, friends and former clients began to hear about what we were creating and started to offer their services. It couldn’t have worked out any better. The gym was literally built with the hands of people that felt like our previous fitness programs had changed their own lives and they wanted that mission to continue for others.

Our final obstacle was finding the right team of fitness coaches and support staff for the gym. At Fit Tribe we only wanted to work with other professionals that would be an asset to our clients (who we feel are like family). Certifications and degrees weren’t the only assets we were looking for with our staff. We were looking for passion, professionalism, empathy, humor, and a little magic. We kissed a lot of frogs during many months of interviewing. It was all worth because the Fit Tribe Coaching team is now world-class and each person brings their own unique magic to the table.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At our 1.7 acre indoor/outdoor fitness facility we offer our signature group training camp, personal training, nutrition coaching, and sports performance for student-athletes.

Here’s our secret sauce- we focus on building lean muscle and killing cardio. Our top-notch trainers make sure our tribe is executing moves safely with great form. It’s a simple approach wrapped in one-of-a-kind programs.

We are also the only black-owned free-standing gym in our area.
