Today we’d like to introduce you to Mario Choice.
Mario, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am Leadership Program Director at a non-profit called Hope Farm. Hope Farm is located in South Fort Worth and is a long-term leadership development program that guides at-risk boys, without the benefit of a positive male role model in their homes, from the time they are 5-7 years old until high school graduation and beyond. I have been working there for almost three years now.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a former Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, and Youth Pastor, God prepared “me” for many roles at Hope Farm. I learned skills that equipped me for my job as a director. It hasn’t been an easy road but challenging. Every mistake I made in other roles, I was able to learn and use those experiences in my role at Hope Farm.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a program director, I am responsible for overseeing all aspects of an organizational initiative, including hiring staff, managing the budget, and advertising the program to potential participants. Their duties include setting the scope of the program, setting deadlines, and delegating tasks to team members. Build a strong team through open communication and by collaborating on decision-making responsibilities. We are known for mentoring young men and teaching them skills through spirituality, education, and leadership to help them become success in their communities. I am proud of that I get a chance to mold and shape our next leaders.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is when you find something you love to do & when you wake up every morning, you look forward to doing it again & again.
