Hidden Gems: Meet Paul Morrison of Cadence Church

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Morrison.

Hi Paul, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Anyone who knew me in high school knows I’m the last person to be a pastor.

Growing up, there wasn’t a history of ministry in our family but in fifth grade, I learned about Christianity at a vacation bible school and I knew nothing would ever be the same. There was a seed planted at that time but over the next 10 years, I would still be involved in drinking, drugs, fighting, and everything the party scene offered. Though I was having fun I found myself empty every Monday morning when the weekend was over. At 19 years old, after months of research, I came to a make-it or break-it moment in my faith journey and completely surrendered what life I had left to Jesus.

I had always loved entrepreneurship. Since I was in second grade, I was always trying to sell a product, build a brand, or market an idea. When I was 19, I ended up leaving behind the idea of going to school at A&M for architecture and pursued Bible School in Dallas.

It wasn’t for another year or two that I discovered there’s a way to do ministry and be an entrepreneur. I began studying and becoming obsessed with leadership, organizational management, and marketing. Years later my wife and I would start a social media management company, getting our feet wet in the marketing and entrepreneur world. This eventually allowed us to move forward last year as we started a church from scratch, during a pandemic!

It was always our heart to start a church that had no “hooks”, no “catches”, no “gimmicks”. On September 19, 2021, we opened the doors to Cadence Church at Rock Hill High School and have seen incredible stories of people connecting, growing in their faith journey, and have even been able to give away thousands to missions here in the Frisco area and all around the world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We went through a lot this year, both professionally and personally. To be honest, there were a few “bumps in the road” that brought us to the brink of nearly turning back. When we set out to start Cadence Church, we made a decision that this was never for us, it was for the person who needed faith still. Somehow throughout a year of so much stress, loss and pain, God brought us, our board, and our team of volunteers through it all to start Cadence Church.

Starting this church has costs us more than we imagined both relationally and emotionally but in many other ways as well. So, when we hear the stories of moms and dads, men and women, boys and girls that are finding hope in a season where our world needs it the most, well, it’s all been worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Cadence Church?
We exist, as a church, to help people become who God created them to be. It’s our hope that people would find life in God by knowing Jesus, finding freedom, discovering their purpose, and ultimately making a difference in the lives of others.

We’re not religious people, we’re Jesus’ people and we believe church is meant to be enjoyed, not endured. When you pull into our parking and walk in our building, there’s a team of people (unpaid) that are full of life and joy – something we think God, church, and heaven are marked by.

For far too long the church, in many ways, has been known for telling people what’s right and wrong instead of pointing people to Jesus and letting him grow them. We believe it’s our job to show people Jesus and see him began to work in and through them.

How do you think about happiness?
Our success is seeing others win. We want to see people grow in their faith, in their families, in their businesses, and more.

Nothing is better than seeing others do what they never thought was possible. This is the reason our vision as a church is to see people become who God created them to be. When we reconnect with our maker; joy, life, and hope are inevitable.
