Today we’d like to introduce you to Bernadette Garcia.
Hi Bernadette, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a veteran in the beauty industry. My career as a hairstylist began 22 years ago. My education for hairstyling came from Toni & Guy Hair Salon, Bumble & Bumble New York, Oribe Las Vegas, & Fred Segal Santa Monica California. I opened my own salon in San Antonio in 2010, which did well & closed in 2020. Due to personal circumstances, I relocated here to the North Dallas area to be close to family & am now starting over in building a clientele base here in Plano TX. Being behind the chair & doing hair is where my passion is! Not only do I love making my clients look amazing but I also love making them feel beautiful! I strive to build wonderful relationships with all of my clients & personalizing a unique look for them! Loving what I do is key to my success.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
In the beginning of my career, it was a smooth road, but in 2013 my dear mother got very ill & I had to travel 7 hours to North Texas on the weekends to visit with her. This occurred for over 6&1/2 years. Her doctors stated the 1st year that at best she would only make it 6 months to a year at most…she became their “miracle patient” living until September 2020. If you can even imagine being told that….it was extremely difficult dealing with the thoughts every day that “today might be the day” I receive a call that my mother had passed. It took a toll on me. In September 2020 I received the call & my mother had passed on to Heaven. The grief I felt took a toll on my life. A lot of things occurred & changed including a divorce with my husband. My whole life changed. I moved to the Dallas area to be close to my family & to start fresh & new in building a business here.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in Women’s & Men’s haircuts, hair color, highlights, balayage hair painting, hair extensions & makeup applications. I do both shear & straight blade razor haircutting techniques. Not many stylists do the straight blade razor cutting technique I use. Freehand hair painted highlights is a specialty of mine also…I love painting hair with color! I am proud to say that I feel like I’ve had some of the very best education provided in my industry which has helped me grow in all my techniques I use to give all my clients their own personalized look.
What were you like growing up?
It’s funny because growing up I was very shy, an introvert…but in my career, I am opposite of that…I have to be. I feel like I’ve always been a kind genuine person. Being open-minded to many things has allowed me to learn so much in different areas of my life & career.
