Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Brooks.
Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I first started in 2015 where I graduated with my Cosmetology License. From there, I started working as a Waxer at a well-known body waxing chain. Once the pandemic hit, we all were let go for obvious reasons.
During the pandemic, I had nothing but time on my hands like the rest of the world. So, I just started to reflect on my life and where I saw myself within the next couple of years. Then, I had an idea to open up my own waxing business.
That’s where Femme Haus Beauty Bar started. I did my research, gathered all of the supplies I needed, and opened up shop in July of 2020.
Fast forward to now and I am extremely happy that I decided to go after my dreams. I love what I do and most importantly I love making my clients feel good.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We all have a mapped-out vision of what we think our business is supposed to be and how easy we think it will be. That was the case for me when I started my business.
I thought it was going to be smooth sailing, but I did encounter a lot of roadblocks. I had a vision of me being fully booked with clients when I first started.
It was actually the complete opposite. I only had a few people within the first week of opening. So, I decided to go out and market the old school way and hand out my business cards and post more on social media. Thankfully the clients started rolling in shortly after.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is playing with all of my brothers and sisters. I grew up being 1 out of 8 children, so we had lots of fun memories together. We played red light green light, double dutch rope, hopscotch, Simon says, the list goes on!
