Check Out Kirisma Evans’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirisma Evans.

Hi Kirisma, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have been singing since I was about 5 and as I got older my love for music grew. I began singing more and more. During my early childhood education days, my music instructor told my mom that I had a strong voice and to make sure she nurtured the gift. Once I got to Lincoln High School my choir teacher made sure that I received everything thing I needed to be a well-versed singer. I went on to compete classically and of course, gospel music was a big part of our repertoire. I went on to college where I majored in Vocal Performance another building block. Even then I never imagined being where I am today. I returned home in 2000 from school only to become employed by AT&T where I worked for a total of 12yrs still singing though. Here is where my life took a turn, after a ministry assignment and not having enough time at work to cover my absence I was let go and now I am forced to make a decision about my future. I was beyond hurt, but I knew God had a plan for me far greater than what I was experiencing at the moment. In 2015, KIRISMA EVANS Ministry took off. I began singing and traveling even more including trips to Africa and Nigeria and the list continues. As an artist/minister/worship leader my life changed forever. God has favored me to share stages with so many of the people I grew up listening to as a child and God is continuing to open doors for me and I am grateful. I recently had a live recording, so new music is on the way after a 3-year hiatus.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been smooth, but God has always made a way!! Fear and doubt is real and will cause you to become stagnant and I dealt with it. There was a period in time where I sat on my music because I was afraid of rejection, but I had people around me who saw the best in me and pushed me to release what God had given me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Worship Leader/Artist. I serve The New Faith Church Houston weekly as their worship leader and in between those duties I travel as an artist. I am mainly known for my delivery of the Hymns of The Church. I love the church of old and being raised in church it is embedded in me. I am my person; I do not conform to the thoughts and opinions of others. I want to always find myself staying true to who God created me to be.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
When finding a mentor, you want someone who is nonbiased, who will tell you the truth in love, who will tell you when you’re right and wrong, who will allow you to vent and then give you the encouragement you need to get back up. I had to learn that God gave me the gift and there is work I must do and if I wanted to succeed, I had to put feet to my faith!!! Remember that your gift will make room for you…. You don’t have to force it!!!
