Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Barnett.
Monica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up as a tomboy. I played sports year-round and by the time I graduated from high school, I was a 16 varsity-letter woman and a soccer All-American. In playing soccer, my coach used to always make us clean and oil our cleats before every game. Andre would say, “When you look good, you feel good; and when you feel good, you play good!” That saying stuck with me and as I continued through life, what I came to notice was not only that I had an eye for what worked well on people but that dressing and how one looked affected how people saw themselves and how others viewed them.
I have since changed my soccer coach’s saying to be my business motto: when you look good, you feel good; and when you feel good, other people notice. I started Blueprint for Style and wardrobe styling because I saw the impact, short- and long-term, that feeling good had on people’s professional and personal relationships, and I wanted to be part of that!
Blueprint for Style matured the concept to focus on the power of the first impression and how it impacts and influences those ongoing relationships. The idea that I can help people in their most important moment feel awesome and shine, or pull them up from feeling less-than-worthy to believing in themselves and exuding that self-confidence is why I do this!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most entrepreneurs would say the road of entrepreneurship is filled with ups and downs, and their road is filled with good and bad days, my road has been the same: I have had dips and low points where I wanted to stop and then something wonderful and unexpected happened. I’ve reached a point where I use the low points as “teaching time” – to think about how I can better address client needs or, more importantly, expand my client base.
Far and away the biggest struggle has been exposure and visibility of my business and services to my ideal clientele.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Blueprint for Style, at its core, is a company dedicated to making the most of those first seven to 17 seconds of meeting someone. And we focus on that by creating an outward appearance for our clients that speaks to their aspirations and how they want to be seen by the world. Unlike a lot of other personal styling companies, our focus is beyond just clothes to creating a closet you love that works for your lifestyle and aspirations so that could be designer wear but it also considers sustainable fashion, capsule creation, weight transitions, and more!
Blueprint for Style has managed to remain true to sharing more about style and stylish living beyond just a name brand, and that’s what we’re most proud of. We’ve expanded slowly and intentionally.
What I’d love for readers to know is that when you work with us, you’re going to walk away feeling good because you look good!
