Daily Inspiration: Meet J.R. Coble

Today we’d like to introduce you to J.R. Coble.

Hi J.R., we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Well I was released from Federal prison 4-23-20 and the released from the halfway house on avenue J on 4-3-21

I taught myself who to play the guitar while incarcerated. I also taught my the piano and Spanish. God took that time to sit me still so that I could see all the potential He had given me. And how to use it for good. I started with an open mic I. RichardsonTx at GUITARS&GROWLERS and after I sang there that day they called back to do a paid set. And it took off from there. God has placed some awesome people in my life to help me navigate through all of this. And for that I’m grateful. Since then I’m working on an ep and I’m doing shows all over the DFW area. Looking to expand this year. To nearby cities. It’s been a long hard ride. But a ride nonetheless.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The hard part is putting a band together. And getting shows. Because no matter how good you are. You have to have a following for venues to book you. The hardest part has been getting myself out there. Once people hear me I’m in. It’s just getting them to hear you. And keeping a band together.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a songwriter and I believe I have a good voice. But I love to write. That’s where I feel most comfortable. People tell me my voice is great and all that. I don’t agree but I love the songs I write.

What matters most to you?
God and my family. God because I’m nothing without Him. And my family because family is all you have at the end of the day!!!
