Meet Damian Price

Today we’d like to introduce you to Damian Price.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been a creative person for as long as I can remember. Whether that be drawing, painting, singing, or writing. I just loved making art. I didn’t start taking my music more seriously until High School. Which was 10years ago now, wow that’s weird to say. But I wrote and released my first mixtape that will remain unnamed because the vocals and recording were so bad it’s embarrassing. I personally still have all of my old music and still listen to it from time to time to remember my growth. I’ve really come so far lyrically and vocally and it has been a true struggle getting to this point. I think you really have to live life and gain perspective and open-mindedness to be an artist. Without those things you can’t reach anyone.

Over the years I struggled with my identity. Trying to figure out who I was as an artist and what I wanted to say in my art. I think the Apollo-Sol persona is the ultimate version of who I’ve been trying to be for so long. The name came from my dad’s nickname being Apollo and Sol meaning Sun in Spanish. So, I’m the Son of Apollo. And also, the Sun correlates to flowers and the key to life. I’m a spring baby so I love the outdoors and nature deeply.

It wasn’t until 2019 when I started to dabble in photography/videography. I really only bought a camera so that I can make my own music videos but since I’ve bought it, I’ve only shot a handful of my own personal stuff ironically. I’ve always been the cameraman in my friend group so it came very natural for me to take pictures of others. And through that, I started taking pictures for the Arlington music scene and from there I met my great friend and business partner Trang Vu and started DreamWaves Productions.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think what I struggled with most was consistency and just self-motivation. I had to stop looking to my family and friends to support me in my dreams because I learned that total strangers will be the ones who truly help and support you and believe in you before any of your family or friends. They will always only see who you were and not what you could be.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m known mostly for my music and photography/Videography. I’ve shot music videos and live show performances for a lot of the local music scene as well as collaborated, co-wrote and features on albums with local artists like LeLune, Miles Canady, Chef Dee. I’m most proud of my first album ‘Bloom Again’ dropped in 2020 had a variety of features also which is streaming on every platform available.

I think what sets me apart from others is my versatility. I wear so many different hats that it’s hard to box me in one category. I really want to be the next Donald Glover.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am the biggest movie buff and comic book nerd ever. I can pretty much name almost any actor in any movie and other movies and shows they’ve been in. I’m pretty good with names.
