Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Stafford.
Hi Jason, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
In April 2020 I was released from prison. I found a job and a place to live. Things went south and I ended up homeless on the streets. I had always loved art, music, writing and things like that. Well, a friend of mine on social media is a graphic designer, I use to pick his brain because I was real interested in getting into that industry. Well, finding myself homeless and desperate, one night I had a wild idea to start designing logos, for cheap, just to eat, maybe get a motel room. So, I had my cellphone, I started a Facebook business page. Downloaded the best logo design apps I could find and started practicing, reaching out to people trying to get something, anything. My skills were trash by the way lol.
Nobody, except one friend, would even pay me any attention. I get it though; it was obvious I had no idea what I was doing. But I was determined I had nothing to lose. So, skip ahead some, I end up back and forth between Dallas and Fort Worth. Homeless still, lost, desperate and at my end, I didn’t see a light at the end of the tunnel. I found an online college and applied for graphic arts degree (bachelor). Got funded and started gaining my skills and knowledge. Still from a cellphone, no laptop or tablet yet. I had a really awesome cellphone though a lot of people don’t know after I got better, I was still designing on a phone. So, stimulus check comes, I buy a domain name, website the works, for 2 years paid advance. Trial and error, I’m on a timeframe I know is unreasonable but I’m ahead in school, running my freelance graphic design business, doing all my own marketing, chasing down clients, leads, freestyling it cause in all reality I have no idea what I was doing, I was learning as I was going, on the fly. I eventually got a place to stay, spent every dollar I made buying what I really needed to advance, PC, subscriptions, tools of the trade. And now I’ve branched out to social media management, beat production, NFT art, and some other secrets I’m not ready to expose. I don’t believe I’m anywhere near where I want to be, or should be, but I just worry about the day as it comes.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been everything but a smooth road. I’ve been through some things I’d rather not go into. But I’ve lost a lot, friends, family, I’ve been told to get a normal job, been told to grow up, get real, laughed at, mocked, but I try not to dwell on that, I try to let my actions, and level up game speak for me
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a little, ok a lot random. I don’t think I have a niche or special category. I create logos, social media content, video ads, NFT art, music, just now got into app building. I don’t know, what sets me apart, or what I’m known for. Ok, I’m probably known for surprises. Yeah, surprises. What’s sets me apart probably would be my ability to sell myself. I’m selling you me. Not the logo, or the video, or the webpage design. You’re purchasing a part of my being.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
See, this I knew would come one day. And I made sure no one would be able to take any credit, but me. I’ve had a few, cheerleaders, they come and go. Mentors or financial support? No. Nobody but me has walked this path with me but me. Me and a thousand thoughts.
