Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Price.
Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started playing gigs in college through referrals from friends and colleagues. There was always confusion in trying to find musicians and music and there still is to some degree, but I was able to learn from each client and performance. After each performance/gig, I would try to find ways to make the process easier for both me and the client by coming up with forms to clarify information and expanding repertoire list. I paid attention to what genres were the most popular and the most requested material.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The most difficult struggle for me was trying to find a way to streamline the finding and booking a musician process. I was able to solve this with an online booking agency (gigsalad.com) that still allows me full control of my business including how and when I hire out other musicians.
Another issue, that I am still struggling with, is adjusting my sound to the venue. I accept outdoor events, but this requires me to use a cheaper student quality violin which does not have the tone of my professional instrument. By doing this, I run the risk of my audience hearing me at a less than perfect level. Even though my clients understand this when booking, I am not sure if this is hurting my image through the audience’s interpretation.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sarah Price – Violinist – what should we know?
I am an active performer of chamber music and frequently travel throughout the country performing for a wide range of audiences. I perform solo violin and chamber music for weddings, cultural, religious, and holiday events throughout the Dallas – Fort Worth area.
Giving clients the option to book a classical musician directly without having to go through an agency. This allows the client to tell me directly what kind of sound they are wanting and to make booking a musician or chamber group less stressful. Some clients are very specific about what they want and others are not. Being able to talk with the person who will actually be performing the music makes a difference since every event is unique.
