Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Angela Coreil. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Better Living Center for Behavioral Health was founded in 2017 by Dr. Angela Coreil (Cathey) with the mission to provide high-quality care for people suffering from OCD and anxiety-related disorders, as well as to disseminate behavior therapies to mental health professionals. Dr. Coreil (Cathey) previously worked as lead therapist for the adult OCD intensive outpatient (IOP) and partial hospitalization (PHP) programs at one of the nation’s leading OCD treatment facilities. She brought her therapeutic skills and treatment knowledge with her to Dallas and founded Better Living to provide gold-standard OCD treatment to this underserved population of DFW. Currently, Better Living Center for Behavioral Health is the only treatment facility in the metroplex that offers this unique exposure-based therapy at intensive treatment levels (Supportive Day, Intensive Outpatient) and individual levels.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While Better Living has certainly made waves in the behavioral health market of DFW, it began with education through Behavior-Behavior. This focus allowed us to better provide online coursework to thousands of clinicians and weather Covid-19 shutdowns. As the pandemic raged on into the summer and fall months of 2020, mental health around the world was declining sharply. To deal with this, Better Living offered a now-normal telehealth option for clients to see our clinicians via the web. It was this flexibility around our core mission that allowed us to continue not only surviving but growing during these unprecedented times. Now on the other side of lockdowns, facemasks, and social distancing measures, we have moved into a larger facility for in-person therapy and grown our staff three-fold from the start of the pandemic.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Dr. Coreil (Cathey) is dedicated to unifying mental health care through a focus on behavior principles. This goal is met through two different brands, Better Living Center for Behavioral Health and Behavior-Behavior. Behavior-Behavior is the educational arm of the business, providing continuing education courses in Clinical Behavior Analysis and Acceptance Commitment Therapy for behavioral health and mental health professionals alike. Behavior-Behavior strives to expand the standard toolbox of mental health professionals by providing new insights into how behavior principles drive all aspects of their practice. On the other side of the coin is Better Living Center for Behavioral Health, our treatment center where we provide intensive outpatient and individual session therapy utilizing gold-standard treatments. Better Living is proud to boast its multidisciplinary team of Directors, Behavior Analysts, Behavior Therapists, and Behavior Specialists.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Setting strong and clearly defined principles for the company and building a tight-knit multidisciplinary team around those principles has been crucial for growth and success. The principles that have led Better Living “through the trenches” so to speak are dedication, integrity, and flexibility. Dedication to the mission of providing gold-standard care to those suffering from OCD; integrity in propagating behavior therapies to mental health providers, not to boost our own brand, but rather to further all clinician’s capabilities in providing effective, long-lasting treatment for patients; and most importantly flexibility in the needs of our patients, staff, and business. When met with new challenges or opportunities, we always made sure that we were adhering to our mission and principles first.
