Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Snell.
Michelle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My husband, Marty, and I met when I was 15 years old. We dated until I graduated and moved off to college. Life then took us on different paths until we reconnected 8 years ago. At that time, we realized that we should have never been apart and we vowed to make up for lost time with one another.
We took a month-long trip to Europe for our honeymoon and visited south Italy and France. This ignited a love for travel (and especially a love for Europe) in us. Our family and friends were very interested in how we were able to take this amazing trip on a tight budget. Of course, they also wanted us to share our experiences and pictures. That is how our travel business, That Texas Couple, was born!
In launching That Texas Couple, I discovered that I had a passion for writing and loved sharing our journeys with our audience. I love when people use our tips to book trips and go see the world. I also started to build an online community of friends, which was an extra reward I wasn’t expecting. Shortly after, I realized that we could turn our little hobby into a business and I started learning everything I could about monetizing our blog, social media, and travels.
That leads us to where we are today. We are truly humbled by the amount of interest in our travels and are honored to share our stories and tips with our audience.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There were definitely struggles! I had never built a website, nor did I know anything about online marketing. I am a public-school administrator, so the online travel world was completely new to me.
When I look back at some of my original writing pieces, I am so embarrassed. I have learned SO MUCH since then.
One time I severely messed up our website also and caused the entire site to crash for several days. I honestly don’t even know what I did, but I had to hire an expert to come in and clean it up.
Of course, we have had several mishaps along the way while traveling also, but those are stories all to themselves.
I taught myself EVERYTHING about building a website, social media marketing, online branding, etc. I know I am still nowhere near an expert, but I am very proud of all that we have accomplished.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We have recently expanded our travel network and now have two travel-related online businesses.
That Texas Couple focuses on us, a couple from Texas, as we travel the world (not just Texas). We share our travels from all of our destinations on our blog and our social media platforms. Although we are considered micro-influencers on social media, we have a highly engaged following. We recently won Reader’s Choice for Favorite Social Influencer from Fort Worth Weekly Magazine. We are super humbled by that award.
Our second site is called Totally Texas Travel. This site focuses solely on travel in the great state of Texas. Although it is just getting started, I have high hopes for what it will become.
We pride ourselves on providing high-quality work to our clients and audience. We specialize in social media promotions, product reviews, and sponsorships, featured article writing, photography, videography, and providing brand ambassadorship.
I believe that our fun, approachable style is what sets us apart from others. Everyone we have worked with tells us that we are so relatable and easy to be around that they want to continue to be friends with us after the promotion. Again, this is amazing to us. We want to represent brands and companies in a realistic, fun, and relatable way because that is exactly how we approach life.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I believe that success is defined by the relationships that you create with people and the positive impact that you have on their life. I don’t think success is measured by the number of followers or the amount of money you have. Success is truly the impact that you have on the world around you.
