Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaquayla Jones.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Jaquayla Jones, i go by nunu. My brand is called DRIPP BY NUNU. I’ve been designing since I was 10 years old where I would create anything I could think of. When I was 16 my home unfortunately was destroyed due to a fire. I was a senior at the time I was able to skip the 11th grade i had a lot on my plate with school and home. We were living in a motel at the time and I would think of things to create to help make extra money for food, motel fee, and school tuition. I taught myself how to sew and starting making clothes and wearing them to school. Everyone in school would always compliment me and I was voted most ambitious in my class. I’ve always considered myself a hustler. Being the youngest of 4, I had a lot to prove. I finally felt like I had a purpose in life. I love what I do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I still get discouraged. My main struggle was trying to create with the little knowledge and resources I had. Also trying to get my brand out there but getting turned around and denied by pop up shop host.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
February 2022 I will start my first ever professional job. I am now a licensed life and health insurance agent. I’m most proud of being so young and able to accomplish so much. When I graduated when I was 16 i had to find my way in the world, I didn’t know what was next for me but now I’m finally where I belong. I’m most known for my unique clothing designs and retro approach. What sets me apart is my drive. I’ve put my blood sweat and tears on the line for my brand. And I have to be a woman of many talents once I learn how to design one thing I continue exploring and setting new trends. I love change.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What i love best about Dallas is the support I get from everyone. Although I’m not a master designer they still trust me to create their vision. What i like least is the double standard that you have to move out to make it. Most of the famous people we do have that came up in Dallas don’t shed light on what a great loving city it is.
