Today we’d like to introduce you to James Cervantes.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started when I moved back to Dallas from Iowa after spending 4years there with my mother Melissa Jo McRavin, at North Mesquite High School I met two producers Ben Costilla and Eddie Varela and an artist/song writer David Martinez after making the bold decision to devote my life to music and left home at the age of 16 with a dream and the clothes on my back. luckily for me these talented young men and their families took me in as family teaching me everything it took to make a song, from producing the beats to recording vocals then mixing it all together to create what I can only call masterpieces that I’ve had the pleasure to be a part of creating. I started out as a songwriter and recording artist by the name Tru Da Produk but have evolved to being considered one of the best Audio Engineers in Texas, given the fact I knew alone I couldn’t take on the world myself I put my own artistry on hold to help others. I fell into engineering because I would constantly get asked “who records your music?” or “how did you achieve that sound” putting me in a position to record more and more people as word spread about our skills. After suffering the tragic sudden death of my mother in 2013 I decided to name the studio after her because she was my #1 supporter and my first critic, a hard one at that. MJM-comes from her name Melissa Jo McRavin so when I say MJM Recording Es-Tu-Dios I’m saying MJM Recording is your GOD. We create music of all genres and speak a universal language anyone can understand. “we all have a voice and I would like to be the one to record it” I’ve traveled to Austin taking a leap of faith to spread my sound and work with as many artist I could, that was exactly what I needed to give me that drive and motivation to grow in this music business. We had a camera man Jordan Hernandez (JBTV-JellyBeanTV ) in the studio all day and night for days sometimes compiling footage of what we were on the brink of becoming. we got so busy I had to hire another engineer in Cedar Hill, TX by the name of NineSevn to keep up with all the calls coming in. 14 years later I’m still a mobile recording studio, I go to my clients home and find a corner and a closet and do what I do best, make great music.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It wasn’t always easy, I faced many challenges. From homelessness, getting robbed of all my equipment to keeping the lights on when business was slow in the early stages of building my career. no matter the circumstance or obstacle I always found a way to pull thru not just for myself but for the many people who counted on what I do to change lives and create a better tomorrow for our families.

I’m hoping to open recording studios in many different cities across the globe, and change lives. I want to give people jobs and create opportunities so others can do the same. I will looking in all the dark places to shed light on the talent that deserves to be heard and broadcasted to the world
