Inspiring Conversations with Wendi Davis of Touched Beauty N Waxing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendi Davis.

Hi Wendi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina, and have been living in the Dallas area for 4 years now. I have always been fascinated with fashion since 4th grade, which led me to earn my fashion merchandising degree from East Carolina University in 2016.

Prior to college, I battled with my self-confidence as a result of weight issues and bullying from others most of my childhood and teen years. While in college, I tried various beauty products and used makeup as a way to boost my self-esteem. Ultimately, I took my curiosity for beauty further and practiced makeup application on a few friends and family in between classes.

After graduating college, I still felt like something was missing in my life. I felt like I wasn’t truly walking in my purpose while working odd jobs in retail and foodservice. I made the decision to go back to school for my esthetician license in 2017. I wanted to start taking my interest for beauty more seriously.

After obtaining my license in skincare therapy in December 2018, I decided to pack up everything and board a flight to Dallas, Texas to be near a family support system and pursue more experience working for franchise spas in the DFW area. In 2020, I took a leap of faith and independently ran my own location. While that location went through multiple pandemic challenges and ended up closed, I am now servicing clients by private appointments while I am in transition.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been easy! The reason I relocated to Dallas was to stretch my faith and continue to sharpen my skillset. In NC, I had a chance to experience different cultures but felt like the opportunities were limited there for the path I wanted to follow. Although NC had always been home to me, I knew in order to grow I had dig deep and trust the journey. Starting over in a brand-new state was extremely difficult, especially with no transportation! I lived with my parents for a year who were a great support system as I worked towards my own place and car. Taking the leap to become an independent spa operator presented many challenges, not to mention finding yourself in the midst of a pandemic. A lot of entrepreneurs do not like to talk about the low points of self-doubt and lack of support from others, days of no sales or services, and the constant work of building a brand.

We’ve been impressed with Touched Beauty N Waxing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed esthetician that specializes in full body waxing and facials for women and men and classic, hybrid, and volume lash extensions. I am also a certified permanent makeup artist. I am able to perform services, such as body contouring, brow/lash tinting, and makeup application. I am located in Arlington TX, and my website is touchedbeauty.square.site. You will find me on Tik Tok and IG as a part-time model/influencer. I have worked with several beauty and fashion brands to promote their services and products. You can occasionally catch me behind the camera as well taking my own photos!

What sets me apart is my ability to remain authentic. The thing about beauty is that we can find it in all sizes, shapes, and colors. We simply enhance the beauty already within our reach. I strive to be honest with my followers and clients as I grow and mature and navigate the spa industry. I am most proud of the fact that my business has possibilities that I haven’t even seen yet. Just in the past couple of months, I have evolved in content creation and cultivating my social media. I never thought post-college that I could become a paid beauty influencer.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
One thing I love about Dallas is its diversity. You will experience many cultures here. In some ways, it reminds me of my NC hometown, just way bigger! I also love the amount of opportunities you have to grow in whatever field you choose. The only thing I can say I dislike about Dallas is the traffic, even though I’ve been pretty much forced to get used to it. I guess the traffic is a sign of unlimited growth and opportunities!
