Conversations with Sarah Hayes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Hayes.

Hi Sarah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
To understand my full story, it’s important you understand my heart and the broken, yet essential, pieces that have made me who I am today. The desire to be a nurse has always been embedded in me. Helping people in their most vulnerable moments and giving them a sense of security has always been something I find truly fulfilling. My life prior to adulthood helped shape and mold me into who I am today. I spent many vulnerable years in foster care where self-worth and security were entirely stripped from me. I was told that I would never amount to anything and end up like a statistic. I endured every kind of abuse imaginable during my childhood years and had every reason to listen to those voices.  I graduated high school and found myself 18 and homeless. I had no supportive family around to help me navigate the next part of my life. All I had was a high school diploma and an old car that I worked every summer to buy. One day sitting in my car, I decided what I wanted to do with my life. I remember praying and telling God my dreams and desires through my tears. I knew that one day I wanted to be a wife, a loving mom, and a nurse. I came to find myself in desperate need of something greater than myself. It was in that vulnerable moment I found strength, peace, and purpose. I found the relentless love of my Savior, Jesus Christ. In Him, I learned that I was more than the broken pieces of my life.

I worked 3 jobs and took night classes at the local community college working towards my nursing degree. During this time, I met my amazing husband and we were married in February 2012. We have 2 beautiful children and being their mom is the most rewarding gift God could have ever given me.

I started off my nursing career in the trenches in med-surg oncology. While caring for these patients and learning how to be a nurse, I fell in love with critical care nursing. I transferred to the ICU, which I absolutely loved, and thrived while doing it. I still miss it to this day and know it made me the meticulous nurse I am today.

One of the best things about nursing is that there are so many avenues you can go down. Several years ago, I discovered aesthetic nursing. It was one of those moments where everything clicks, and you just know that you were made for this! I absolutely loved everything about it. What I loved most though, was seeing how it made people feel. After receiving my certification in aesthetics, I teamed up with a plastic surgeon who was looking to offer non-surgical procedures in his office. I spent several hours being observed and trained by him, in addition to other talented and renowned doctors/trainers to truly perfect and cultivate my craft. I still and will always invest in continuing education because I enjoy learning and know it’s essential for me to be the best I can be for my patients. Another aspect of what I do is sharing my own acquired pearls of wisdom with other providers… In addition to running 2 offices in Dallas, I also enjoy traveling and help train and mentor nurses and physicians in technique and skills. I absolutely love sharing my passion and excitement for this industry with others and enjoy building a strong community of incredible injectors. I believe the better we are as individuals, the better our industry looks as whole.

With all of that being said, I can honestly say that the most rewarding part of what I do is making people feel beautiful, confident, and seen. When patients tell me that their confidence has gone up after seeing me, it’s the most rewarding part of what I do. I understand that coming to see me can be intimidating due of the stigma behind cosmetic procedures. My hope is that by reading my story, others understand my heart and the mission behind what I do. My prayer is that patients leave my office feeling like the best version of themselves…confident and beautiful in their own skin!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not exactly. As with any business, gaining the trust of an individual is a challenge, especially when it comes to altering their face. Our business model is to focus on quality never quantity. Finding community-

I found it was really hard to network with other injectors initially for various reasons. Recently, I decided to start a networking event for industry providers where we can share ideas, encourage each other and discuss important topics in our community. I have found this to not only be beneficial of us as individuals but provide a better and safer practice for our patients.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a registered nurse with a specialty in aesthetics. In addition to all non-surgical facial treatments, my most requested treatment is for non-surgical lip augmentations. It’s my goal that patients’ results are undetectable, yet beneficial. I’m proud that my patients continue to look natural and like the best version of themselves when they leave my office. My goal is to give subtle improvements that compliment and harmonize with the rest of your facial features to keep you looking like you!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Invest in trainings and seek out mentorships. You will never learn everything your need to know in this industry in a weekend course. Find people you admire, not just their work, but their ethics. Don’t compare where you are in your career to others. We all started with 1 patient and at times an empty schedule. If it’s your passion, you will be successful. Your patients feel it and trust you. Retention of your established patients should take priority. Never treat them like a number and always prioritize them.
