Meet Oscar Silerio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Silerio.

Hi Oscar, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Oscar Silerio. I’ve been a licensed hair professional for 9 years. My story begins in a small town named Hereford, Tx. My senior year, we made it to the playoffs in football. In Hereford, it’s tradition that the entire team lighten their hair blonde and get Mohawks. I convinced my friend to let me cut his mohawk and he was hesitant at first, but I played it cool and acted as if I knew exactly what I was doing. I had never cut hair in my life. Eventually, he gave in and surprisingly it was pretty good for my first haircut. From that point on, I was hooked. It went from one friend to two, then three, four, and spread like wildfire. My mother would come home from work shocked to see 4 or 5 teenagers eating and drinking our snacks waiting to get a haircut. Instead of telling me to take my business elsewhere, she encouraged me to keep going. My mother actually took cosmetology, but unfortunately wasn’t able to get her license due to personal reasons. A part of me has always felt proud that I was able to finish what she started. At 19, I moved to Dallas, Tx. Which had always been a dream of mine. I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside some of the most talented hair professionals the city has to offer. I’ve adopted bits and pieces from each of these individuals to create and fine-tune my own style of cutting. Thankfully I’ve been fortunate enough to share the knowledge I’ve accumulated over the years and give back to others in the industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Although my journey has been rewarding, I’ve definitely had to overcome my share of obstacles. one thing I’ve learned for sure is not to get too comfortable. Stay hungry. We are in a beauty industry that is always evolving and in order for us to evolve with it we must challenge ourselves to step out of our comfort zone to allow room for new knowledge and growth.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I combined barber and hairstylist techniques to service all hair types. I deliver a high-quality customer experience and specialize in precision haircutting. I embrace diversity, art, and culture. my purpose is giving back and changing lives.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Hanging out with My grandpa. He was a mariachi most his life. I remember hearing the sound of his acoustic guitar for the first time. I was blown away at how he created such beautiful music using only a piece of wood and six strings. He was always well dressed and kept his wavy hair slicked back into a pompadour. I always wanted to be as cool as him, the man had style.
