Community Highlights: Meet Ramon Medina of BODYXRAMON

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ramon Medina.

Hi Ramon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I started as a fitness professional working at a gym in downtown Dallas. At that time, the gym placed a higher priority on group fitness so I began my career as a group coach. I was in this role for about a year before moving on and working as a GM/Personal Trainer/Group Coach at another gym that was located in East Dallas. This facility is where my personal training business started to take off and over a couple of years, I had built some great relationships with members and established a small client roster. The biggest difference-maker for me was the experience I brought with me as it pertained to group coaching. I was known for my hard, but functional workouts, and this led to a growth in my personal training business. People started coming to me to get ready for weddings, Cowboy Cheerleader tryouts, photoshoots, and to work on their overall strength. Things were really in full swing when, like for everyone, the pandemic hit, and everything came to a grinding halt.

As time passed and gyms were starting to reopen, it became clear to me that the ways of old weren’t going to work. My clients still didn’t feel comfortable being back in a gym. I knew that I had to make a pivot to continue doing what I love and thus BODYXRAMON was born. I turned my 2-car garage into a full training studio and was blessed to have amazing clients that believed in me. I was able to continue working with all my previous clients and have acquired new clients along the way including Ms. Texas 2020 and the current International Ms. Hawaii. I’ve now been open for a little over a year and have big plans for the future.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To say that the road has been smooth would be a slight deviation from the truth. I do my best not to reflect on the challenges of having my own business over the last couple of years because I know that there have been other businesses that haven’t made it and businesses of every kind have struggles since the pandemic. That being said, the obvious challenge was finding a way to pivot an in-person business to an online business without losing the ability to give my clients the results they deserved. I was very fortunate to have clients that believed in me and were willing to roll with the punches, making my this challenge much more bearable. The next challenge was finding a way to restart in-person training without having a gym at my disposal. I was able to acquire some mobile equipment and started training people outside at parks before moving into my current location. Having my own space is great for privacy and health concerns but this also meant that I had to now obtain all the gym equipment necessary to continue giving my clients the level of training I felt was acceptable. That would seem to be an obvious training business expectation but the real challenge came from trying to find equipment. There were so many home gyms built during the lockdown period that almost all brands were sold out of everything. I spent hours looking through Facebook Marketplace and Amazon just to get dumbbells, bands, and a bench.

We’ve been impressed with BODYXRAMON, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
BODYXRAMON offers 1 on 1 personal training and small group training (2-4) for people looking to perform better and feel better. I’m the go-to trainer in Dallas for body transformations! I use a hybrid method of strength & conditioning and HIIT training to get clients the best results. I most recently trained the current International Ms. Hawaii, Jada Gonzalez, on her way to winning Best Ms, Fitness 2021 and placing 3rd runner up at the International Ms. Pageant.

Whether you are getting ready for a special day, photoshoot, pageant, sports season, or just want to get back in your favorite pair of jeans, my unique approach to training will help you get the results you want.

I currently hold NASM Certified Personal Trainer, NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist, and Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certifications

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people probably don’t know that I have an artistic side to me, more specifically in music. I played the violin for 9 years and still have my electric violin with me to this day. I also sang in choir and a men’s acapella group. I was blessed with opportunities to sing at some cool locations like Disney World and Carnegie Hall.

I also started a YouTube channel toward the end of 2021 where I post workouts, challenges, fitness tips, and some educational reviews from your favorite fitness influencers. As of today, I have done celebrity workouts that include LeBron James, Tom Brady, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kane Brown, and 2 Chainz.
