Life & Work with Redd Ali

Today we’d like to introduce you to Redd Ali.

Hi Redd, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Hey hey, this is ya girl Redd Ali, formally Destiny Ali, born as Destiny Cash. Born in Saint Louis, Mo raised in Pine Bluff, AR. As a child, I honestly didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up. I’ve always figured, you don’t truly know until you’ve experienced the world! Growing up, I’ve always loved sports, cosmetology, and music. When I was about 7 years old, my late father legally changed our names due to him transitioning into becoming Muslim. Growing up in the Nation of Islam was bitter-sweet. It taught me to be strong yet also what not to do. Practicing Islam was not my forte but as a child, I had no upper hand.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, nothing is ever a smooth road. Well, at least not the worthy stuff. I believe obstacles are designed to test your ability and see how far you’ll go to reach complete success. And that’s what I’m aiming for. Being a single mother to 2 children, working and striving to become a legend is definitely a challenge. I have to usually set aside some time for myself in order to write songs and be fully focused. But whatever it takes, I’m willing to set forth the effort.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I AM AN ARTIST — anything music, makeup, fashion, and beauty-related is ME! I create dope music for people to resonate, vibe to and just be who they are. After being shot, it really enhanced my love and passion for music. I’m able to actually tell my stories through sounds and lyrics, and it’s amazing. Just to be able to let people hear what I’ve gone through and making music people like, is a great feeling. So, I’m definitely proud of myself for not allowing absolutely anything to stop me or hold me back from my dreams and goals. I believe my history and the story I bring to the table sets me aside from others. People never know what you’ve been through, especially if you don’t look like what you’ve been through.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe I’m a major risk-taker. As I previously stated, I’m originally from Saint Louis…needless to say, I made a major move and packed myself and my children up to relocate to Texas! I can say, it’s a bit frightening to make such a drastic move. But all in all, I love it here! I love the people; food is absolutely amazing and just to have a different scenery is the best. I made this change to not only better myself and my children, but to also gain knowledge and success in my music career.
