Today we’d like to introduce you to Aboo Nguyen.
Hi Aboo, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
It all started when my mom met my dad and they fell in love. And they had me! Hi, I’m Aboo and my life it’s kinda crazy!
Anyways I fell in love with fashion when I moved to Santa Ana, CA my freshman year in high school. Didn’t really knew what I wanted to do or who I wanted to be until that moment in my life. Everyone at my school was so fresh and it just really opened my eyes to another world!
Over the course of 6 years, I then started to learn how to sew and pattern make. Made a lot of mistakes and terrible garments along the way, but it was part of the process.
I went through 2 different brands before making my recent one; Jooniverse Lab. Where I truly have a clear vision of how I wanted to present my brand to the world!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Learning the ins and outs of building a fashion brand was a headache. I remember my journey in the beginning, it was so terrible I almost quit. I didn’t know where to even start. Took a lot of bad experiences and failed attempts to really learn.
So, to answer the question, no.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So, I am currently a designer in training, but I have my own fashion brand.
I design men streetwear garments that makes an outfit stand out, or at least that’s my goal. I focus on the cut and feel of the garment. Making traditional garments but adding my little twist to it.
I specialize in crop garments that has been a huge hit for my brand. Oversize yet a bit crop is what I aim for and adding little details to make my garments unique.
What I’m most proud of is seeing all my friends and customers wearing my garments on the daily.
I think what sets my brand apart from others is my take on a streetwear brand. The vision, the garment, the feel, and of course the quality marketing I do for it. I like to think that my brand is a bridge/portal for people getting into fashion. I want people to feel confident and express themselves to be the best version of themselves.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I have learned that time is so important. And what you do with it is what really matters.
Except for anime, you gotta make time for anime.
