Hi Mercedi, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Thank you! I’m excited for the opportunity to share more about my business. I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. I later relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada for college. I worked in the private sector for several years before moving to Dallas, TX three years ago for a career change. This relocation eventually presented an opportunity for me to start my business. The name The Violet Victoria is in memory of my beloved sister Violet, who was the epitome of unconditional love. Growing up she poured into me and helped me build the confidence I have today. I grew to become resilient and believe that I can accomplish anything I imagine. A few years ago, I experienced some health issues which motivated me to eliminate chemicals in my home and search for healthy alternatives. I LOVE candles and believe they are an essential part of creating a zen space within your home. However, I realized my favorite brands contained unnecessary additives and from there I started developing my own vegan 100% soy candles made with non-toxic fragrance oils. My mission is to build others up by promoting self-care and love. I take great pride in creating quality candles and body products that inspire you to bloom from within.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been a bit bumpy. One of my first challenges was developing the perfect scent formulas. I am detail-oriented and wanted to provide the best product possible. Due to the pandemic, there were challenges that most small businesses in their first year didn’t experience. I overcame this by ordering bulk supplies in advance, limiting outsourcing, and self-funding when there was lower traffic.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Creating new fragrances is truly an artistic process for me. I blend scents that have a traditional base with a luxe twist. My focus is on self-care and grounding. I want to provide a spa-like experience in the comfort of your home. All my products are hand-whipped which creates a luxurious texture that my customers love. I designed my packaging to be modern and sleek to appeal to all. I take pride in using sustainable material as much as possible. My customers give me amazing feedback about the product saying they are long-lasting scents, visually appealing, and burn clean. I am most proud of the success stories from those who have used the products to reconnect with themselves during challenging times. If I can help change one life for the better, I know I am fulfilling my purpose. What sets me apart from others is my compassion, dedication, and commitment to providing an experience from the moment a person view’s my website to when they light their first candle.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising for both people who know my brand and people who don’t is that I have been creating my own fragrances since I was a little girl. Growing up my grandmother would have her favorite designer fragrances that we were not allowed to touch. She would always say “designer fragrances are for those who designed their finances to afford them.” I became resourceful since I was limited to the body sprays, I could convince my grandmother to buy me from general stores. I would ask for different body sprays and mix them together until I created a scent that was similar to my grandmother’s designer perfume. Who would’ve known that experience as a child would help me later in life with my business? I now create blended scents inspired by a few designer brands along with my aromatherapy blends.
