Meet Angelica Frank of Southlake Family Dental Care in Southlake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Frank.

Angelica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Everything you want in life you have to work for, nothing is going to be handed to you. You can do anything you set your mind to. You can work, be a mother and do it all, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You can often hear me repeatedly telling my nine, seven and four year old daughters these mantras. Not only do I want these thoughts ingrained in their impressionable minds, but I try to live by these words as well. I was the youngest of three girls and had a mom with a remarkable work ethic. She worked early hours and late nights and still was always there for us. She was overly involved in all our school activities, room mom, PTA, you name it, she did it! What I mostly recall about this amazing mother is she never complained. Today, now in her shoes I often think how tired she must have been and I never knew of it. My parents were small business owners, worked long hours but had the flexibility to be present for their daughters. Because of how I was raised there is not one ounce of guilt for being a working mother. I feel privileged to get to go to work every day and financially contribute to my family. It is important for me as a woman and a mom to set this example for my girls. I am blessed with a schedule that allows the best of both worlds.

I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. It was in 3rd grade when I had my mind and heart set on being a dentist. I did whatever it took to become a dentist. I was always a great student but not always the smartest. At times school and classes were a challenge, but I always worked hard, and never gave up. I did not leave El Paso until I was accepted into dental school and I joke that if I could still live at home I would. Baylor College of Dentistry which is now Texas A&M college of Dentistry was my first taste of Dallas. Pregnant with my first born my last year of dental school, my husband and I knew Dallas is where we wanted to reside and raise our family.

Right out of dental school I was given a wonderful opportunity to be an associate at a dental practice in Southlake, Texas. It was part time and perfect for a new mother and new graduate. I am proud to say that almost ten years later I am still working at the same office, which I now own. My staff is made up of four wonderful women, who work hard and are all moms like me. We are all doing life together and it is so amazing to have that connection at the work place. I feel blessed that at the age of nine I knew what I wanted and still to this day am loving every minute of it. I love dentistry, but mostly I love people. I love to engage with my patients, listen to their stories and hope I am making a small difference in their lives.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting my career in an established dental practice made things a lot easier versus dentists that start from scratch. Overall I feel very blessed as a business owner to be in the situation that I am in. I have smart, competent employees that are very good at what they do. This helps tremendously because I don’t have to be micromanage anyone. I feel my biggest struggles along the way is juggling everything and doing it at my fullest potential. Owning my own business, being a mother to three busy girls, and having a husband that travels every week is a lot on my plate. I sometimes struggle with giving all these aspects of my life the right amount of attention.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Southlake Family Dental Care – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a general dentist that has a passion for teeth and for people. Dentistry allows me to use my creative side more than people would think. I love seeing beautiful smiles and knowing I had something to do with it. To me what dentistry comes down to is treating people like you would like to be treated. Such an old, wise saying but so often under used in dentistry. A patients comfort and trust in me and my team is of primary importance at Southlake Family Dental Care. I recently heard a quote “Business, like life is all about how you make people feel, it’s that simple and it’s that hard.” I find this so true. Great dentistry matters, don’t get me wrong but at the end of the day it’s all about how you and your staff make each patient feel. I never want anyone to feel bad about their mouths/teeth regardless of the condition they are in. Teeth are not a priority to everyone and I get that. My job is to teach patients to understand the importance of care for their teeth. I think one thing that sets me apart is that I truly care about my patients as a whole. I care about their lives, and who they are. It is my mission to make a fearful, high anxiety patient love coming to see me!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future is to put more emphasis on growing my practice and my career. Broadening my scope of dentistry and introducing new techniques and ideas to my practice.
