Meet Edmond Breaux of Made By Breaux in DFW

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edmond Breaux.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story started in April of 81, New Orleans, Louisiana. Growing up, I would always hear that I was different from all the other kids. My mom would say “I beat by my own drum.” I wanted to do things my way and made no apologies about what I wanted to do. I just wanted to be creative and see things that was in my mind come to life. I started writing and recording music, I eventually went to school for audio engineering. But something was missing. At the time I was working a full time job and I took on a second job as an assistant with another photographer. I would fix the lighting at the studio, carry equipment and sometimes work the video camera. It was at those shoots I became interested in the process of photography. I started to see it as a privilege to be chosen to capture someone’s memories, it seemed honorable. I bought a camera, started shooting right away and it became an addiction. About a year passed and the photographer I was working with decided to make me a partner. We became real good friends and we still are to this day. I started my own brand, Made By Breaux, in the fall of 2015. It started off as a graphic design business but it evolved into what I fell in love with. As you can imagine it raised a conflict of interest with my business partner and we had already been in disagreement about my say in the business. I was getting half the money and very little creative control which would be ok for most people, “I can do hardly any work and get paid the same I’m in.” But the money was not a priority for me it was making sure my client was happy. I quit my job to dedicate my time to my brand, everything fell apart I lost cars almost lost my house. My business didn’t start to grow right away because I took the photography serious but the business I didn’t like so I shied away from it thus, making me unsuccessful. I’m a risk taker if I see what I want I go after it with everything on the line but this time was different I didn’t have a safety cushion like before so I had to be smart (after dumb didn’t work). I got a business manager and that changed everything. My wife got involved as well. I learned something with this experience is that you can’t do this by yourself and no matter how much you love something the biggest part of your love for it is that it loves you back. Photography has afforded me the opportunity to be around some amazing people and travel to a few places I used to see on TV. My business will continue to thrive because I believe in hard work, never giving in, and most of all I am doing what God created me to do. Mr. Larry Kemp once said that his genius lies on the fact that he doesn’t know how to give up. I came to Ft. Worth, Texas a homeless boy with my mother and brother. We had every opportunity to do just that, give up, but I never liked the easy road because it’s too much traffic, I rather the road less travelled.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like I said in my story the business itself was, and still is, a challenge for me so I had to bring someone on board that is came more natural to. Emotional Pricing, starting low and going lower, was a problem for me because I automatically felt that price was my clients’ main concern before really talking with them about their priorities. My road is still a rocky one but I have learned to navigate around, over, through the pitfalls and remain standing.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Made By Breaux – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We don’t call our business a photography business. We like to refer to it as a creative arts company because we do a variety of things such as; photography, videography, graphic design, web design, and even music production. We specialize in photography. We are known for our unique angles, exaggerated edits and our graphic work on our pictures, these things set us apart. We don’t believe in “Cookie Cutter” standard pictures none of our pictures are the same. We get to know a little bit about our clients, enough to capture their personality in the shoot. I’m am most proud of our clients reaction to their product. I love that we are able to give the clients what they want and what they didn’t know they wanted by being attentive.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our plans for the immediate future is obtain long term contracts with a couple businesses and organizations we work with now. We want to expand my area of business here in Texas and in Louisiana where we also have a client base. In the future we want to open up a gallery/photography studio franchise to display and sell our work as well as have my customers come to us to customize their shoot. I’m back in school studying for my Bachelor’s in Digital Filmmaking. We want to one day produce and direct movies under our brand which will lead us to our own studio.
