Today we’d like to introduce you to Anya Thakkar.
Hi Anya, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After spending almost all my professional life on corporate treadmill in the IT industry, I eventually hit a point in my career in 2016 where I loved the paycheck but did not love my job as an Ecommerce Product Manager. I enjoyed working with really smart people and cutting-edge technology at these Fortune 500 companies, however, I am not as passionate about e-commerce websites as I am about helping people with the biggest financial decisions of their lives. I felt stifled and craved autonomy and creative freedom.
I took a leap of faith and quit my well-paying IT job and joined Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation – THE BEST Company in the mortgage industry. I didn’t know that many people in Dallas as I am a California transplant and that made it even more scary and challenging – no network and no industry experience is not a good combination. But I am so glad that I had the courage to get out of my comfort zone and make a big career change at that time.
I took another leap of faith recently and started my own Fairway Mortgage Branch. I am extremely excited for this growth and look forward to continue helping my clients achieve their dream of homeownership in Texas as well as California. My clients and referral partners are a huge part of my success and are the basis of my motivation to keep growing to better serve the community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Road to success is never smooth and is always under construction. Many late nights, early mornings, and weekend work have been a part of my “normal schedule”. My mornings start with my east coast clients calling me at 6:30 am CST sometimes, because that’s the only time they are available. My evening calls end around 11 pm CST because that’s when my realtors and west coast clients are available to talk. In today’s real estate environment, with inventory low and multiple offers being made, it is important to be accessible to my clients and partners so that they are prepared to win the offer by being pre-approved to quality for that home.
When you are running your own business, any business, there are no normal work hours. There are no shortcuts. Just a lot of hard work and persistence – first to establish your brand and then to maintain it all while making sure I am taking care of myself and balancing time with family. It is absolutely doable, but definitely not easy!

I am extremely passionate about helping my clients build wealth with homeownership and real estate investments. I educate my clients about one of their biggest assets and help strategize their mortgage needs based on their financial and personal situation to set them up for growth and achieve financial freedom. My clients and referral partners look to me as their go-to Mortgage Advisor / Lending Partner and I am extremely humbled and thankful for their trust and confidence in me.
