Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakeesha Browne.
Hi Lakeesha, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started out in accounting working for what was then a Big 6 accounting firm. There I was able to get a taste of many different industries from high tech, manufacturing, retail, and more. I found that I gravitated towards the non-profit clients most and really enjoyed working with clients that were mission-driven. I went on to specialize in non-profit organizations while still gaining experience in a variety of industries. I went on from there to work in a business operations capacity in several non-profit and municipal organizations over a span of twenty years. In 2019, I decided that I wanted more freedom in my work life, so I founded L. V. Browne, CPA, a CPA firm headquartered in Richardson, Texas and one that is focused on working with a variety of small businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals wanting guidance on how to manage wealth and starting and growing entrepreneurial and real estate ventures.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entrepreneurship has not been easy. Learning to focus my priorities on what really matters has been crucial. I have had mentors from the LiftFund Women’s Business Center of DFW who were vital to my being able to structure my business in such a way that the firm has a solid foundation.
As you know, we’re big fans of L. V. Browne, CPA. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The mission of L. V. Browne, CPA is to help small businesses, non-profits and individuals see their way forward. Our mission is to take the burden of administrative tasks off of small business owners so that they are free to focus on the core of their business.
Current Operations
Lakeesha Browne, CPA is a licensed CPA in Texas and can perform accounting, tax, and advisory services. She has over twenty years of experience in accounting and has been the controller for two twenty-plus million-dollar non-profit organizations in the DFW area. She also has experience teaching at the secondary, community college, and university levels. She is currently an adjunct professor at Texas Christian University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School, and a Master’s degree in teaching from Texas Woman’s University.
L. V. Browne, CPA’s product is accounting, tax, and advisory services. We help our clients stay in compliance with tax, accounting, and other regulatory laws. The firm solves a problem. Everyone is required to file a tax return if they make over a certain threshold of income and it is advantageous to file if the government has withheld taxes from a paycheck or other income vehicle. We also help people to set up proper entity structures for their businesses including the corporation, LLC, s-corporation, or partnership. We also train clients in productivity software, like QuickBooks Online. This gives our clients an opportunity to learn and take their skills to the next level.
We provide audit, review, and compilation services for all types of organizations. We handle single audits, non-profit audits, and financial statement audits. We’ve completed numerous audits, reviews, and compilations for nonprofits and small businesses across a wide range of industries, and we always deliver and present our reports in an efficient, timely, and cost-effective way. We also have low staff turnover, which means that clients have the same trusted team working for them every year. At L.V. Browne, CPA, we understand that there’s value in each audit. That’s why, during the auditing process, we take a deep dive into the organization’s operations and activities, gathering the data we need to help you grow and improve your business. When it’s time to share our findings, we communicate our insights in a way that stakeholders can understand, allowing stakeholders to make informed decisions with confidence. We take the ardor out of producing professional financial statements. We use QuickBooks Online for small businesses and can help with software installation and implementation as needed. Lenders or funding sources may require certified financial statements. We can provide as little or as many services as you need. From bank reconciliations to monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and analysis.
Lakeesha Browne is a CPA and an expert in tax, audit, and accounting and is required to update her skills with at least forty hours of continuing professional education per year and must adhere to ethical guidelines as a certified public accountant. The firm provides quality service. Our clients benefit from our responsiveness and it is our goal to remove their administrative burden.
What makes you happy?
It makes me happy when my clients are able to focus on the crux of their business and let me handle the administrative details. I feel that one of my God-given gifts is that of administration so I love to be able to use this gift. I am also a parish lay minister with the Northern Texas Northern Louisiana synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. I enjoy sharing my ministry gifts and published a compilation of testimonies called It’s My Testimony: A Devotional Journal for Women by Women available on Amazon.
