Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Piotrowski.
Hi Megan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I’ve always been an artist in my soul. I have always had a connection with and a passion for storytelling through photography and my artistry. Originally, I pursued photography as a creative outlet and as a way to connect with my community through capturing their stories on film. When the pandemic hit, I hit a major rough patch in my life, and my art was one of the biggest sources of hope, creativity, and perseverance for me during that season. I started documenting and capturing moments of growth, despair, love, and joy throughout this season as a way to document the growth and emotions I was experiencing within my own story. Eventually, my hope was to share my story as a way to help others who were in the same boat. I began to see that through these captured moments I could see both growth in my artistry and myself as a person. Moments I captured became memories for that lasted a lifetime, I knew instantly that I wanted to pursue storytelling through photography at a greater capacity. In January of 2021, I created Captured Living Photography Co.: an experience where every story can be captured in the most intimate, fun, and authentic way. Since then, my small business has turned into such an experience of a lifetime. My art & photography has allowed me to serve incredible couples across the globe, capturing the most beautiful moments shared between them on some of the most incredible experiences of their lives (and with the most exquisite locations as backdrops). Capturing the magic of love and having the opportunity to share in these moments with the couples I serve has been such a delight, and I’m honored to then share their beautiful stories and my own with the rest of the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No road is smooth, but that is the beauty of it, right? Starting a business of any capacity can be challenging and there are always twists and turns that can come your way. I would say showcasing my art & business to the world can be a struggle at times. As a self-taught artist, I have learned and grew my artistry through my own practice and study of equipment, techniques, lighting, and running a small business. I’m very proud of the growth I’ve had as a small business owner and an artist, but it can be challenging at times to make mistakes and have to reflect on those moments in order to grow.
However, these struggles have never been too much of a hindrance for me. I’m a strong believer that if you really pour into something that you’re passionate for, you can take those twists, turns & struggles you face and transform them into great learning experiences that can in return make you an even stronger artist, business owner, etc.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an adventure elopement, couples & wedding photographer specializing in natural light and creative portraiture! I have a passion for capturing candid, warm, intimate & authentic moments with my couples and traveling all to insanely gorgeous locations to capture the magic of their love stories.
I also love creative portraits, specifically editorial fashion photography. I worked within the fashion industry as a stylist and love to help my clients create a variety of bold and color-popping outfits and scenes that tell a story in the most elaborate fashion. *PUN INTENDED*
I believe that my artistry is unique and that I create an inviting and comfortable client experience that makes my clients feel like a close friend rather than a stranger. I love to create mood boards with them on Pinterest, help them plan for their elopement/wedding, and support them even when life takes a turn. Whether we are laughing till we cry or jamming out to Beyonce, you’re sure to have an amazing time and feel like you’re capturing the magic with your best friend during your session! My hope is that all my clients feel “at home” when they are working with me and that their images I take represent themselves in their most authentic and true selves, while have the adventure of a lifetime!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Perseverance and joy. 100%. With those two qualities, you can go through anything and come out smiling. I 100% believe my joy that I share with those around me is the reason clients enjoy working with me. Plus, having the drive to continue to work hard and give my all to my business and artistry even when life is difficult gives me the strength to push limits within my art and capture the most magical moments & stories imaginable.
