Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Teixeira.
Hi Angela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
5.5 years ago, I learned microblading through my mom who had been an instructor for about a year or two. Previous to microblading, I was working for my (then) fiancé and we were butting heads a lot. I needed a passion of my own. I never thought microblading was going to be my career, but now I can’t imagine doing anything else. I love the fact that I can give women (and men) the gift of confidence; to look in the mirror and feel beautiful. This one seemingly minor thing can changes someone’s entire perspective. I am now married and we have 2 kids, Olivia (4) and Kylo (2). Having a flexible schedule allows me to be more involved in my kids’ lives. I’m forever grateful for my mom who paved the way and convinced me to go to one of her microblading classes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge was getting through the first year. I was insecure about my talent and it wasn’t an immediate financial blessing. Within my first year of business, I got pregnant, we moved and my husband was in the process of opening his first coffee shop. I was overwhelmed in all directions. I wanted to prove that I could it all and decided to open two locations in separate cities as well as working in my mom’s salon on occasion. I was spending more money in gas and tolls than I was making. I had to have a come-to-Jesus moment with myself and realize that I was trying to be something that I’m not. I’m a hard worker; don’t get me wrong…but I am not your typical entrepreneur with the desire to build an empire of salons and wealth. I just wanna do what I love and be the best I can be. I slowed my roll, then had two kids, which definitely slowed my roll further. Balancing business and kids can be a struggle, but I’ve learned to set boundaries and create routines that work for me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do a procedure called microblading. With pigment and a tiny Microblade, we implant hair-like strokes to mimic your natural hair patterns and shape and enhance your eyebrows. It’s a form of a tattoo that lasts 1-3 years on average. My favorite brow to do is the combo brow. It’s a combination of strokes and a powdering effect which gives more fullness and a more makeup look. It’s the perfect blend between natural, yet done up. I think what sets me apart from others is also what I’m most proud of. I don’t care about getting the perfect Instagram photos of eyebrows that all look the exact same. My clients appreciate that I won’t ever convince them into a shape that is different than their own. For me, it’s about enhancing the natural shape. I don’t want to create an entirely different eyebrow for them. So not matter what age my client is, they can rest assured that they’re going to have a brow that complements their own features and won’t be overdone. I’m a great listener and love to walk my clients through every step.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That I am overly critical of my work and will do whatever it takes to make my clients happy. In normal life, I’m super chill and a bit lax about things. But with my profession, I am very passionate about the art and my client’s happiness.
