Check Out Mariana Magnani’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariana Magnani.

Hi Mariana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a 23-year-old tattoo artist and creator. I moved from Mexico City when I was 12 years old, and moved around schools and cities at least 5 times before I went to college… After attending and dropping out of art school twice, (Booker T Washington and The School of The Art Institute of Chicago) I lost a lot of money and guidance navigating my future to be an artist. After a once in a lifetime trip with my dad in Beijing, China, I got my first tattoo with was immediately hooked. I will always remember asking the artist what he would say to someone interested in becoming a tattooer. He looked at me with cold eyes and said, ‘don’t do it.’ So, I had to

Tattoos welcomed me with open arms as soon as I began collecting more tattoos, and making the transition from pen and paper to ink and skin. I took the responsibility to move back to Dallas and pursue a proper apprenticeship. I fell in love so hard and so fast, I wanted to respect the culture and do it right.

Although an apprenticeship is very tough and uncertain, I am proud of myself for mapping out the course of my career and taking a different route. I can only imagine where I will be in 5 years, but I have peace knowing I will always be an artist.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I definitely think my experience growing up as a creative facilitated my growth as a tattooer and also opened doors easier for me based on my extensive portfolio. However, there was a lot of money and peace of mind at stake. I did not know if sacrificing my university degree and time spent with my loved ones would be worth it or not. Beginning my career in the midst of a pandemic was an obstacle a lot of us had to power through. Nevertheless, I am thankful my experience has been relatively smooth and filled with inspiring, adrenaline-fueled days

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I like to explore dark emotional themes through my drawings, paintings, music, and tattoos. A lot of my tattoo work is mostly recognized by custom dark butterflies, psychedelic patterns, micro realism, and abstract. Being a creator has always provided me a boundless escape from reality through which anything I Imagine is real. I have fallen in love with tattooing and look forward to expanding my skills and sharing meaningful pieces of myself that will fit in someone’s puzzle. My handle on Instagram ‘painfultattoo’ originally came to me when I was reflecting on my biggest source of inspiration- passion, and pain. Pain is love, love is pain.

What matters most to you? Why?
My family, cats, and my mental health. It seems to be that the older and wiser I get, the less I am preoccupied with clout, material possessions, status, and Popularity. I believe the key to life lies in savoring life’s simple pleasures- such as a slow morning with your loved ones (my 4 cats), a good shower, a perfect layer on procreate, clean sheets, new inspiration, the perfect sunset, etc… I can honestly say I am living my dream just because I get to do my favorite thing in the world every day and I am healthy. I also value the experiences of meeting people in this industry- the good, the bad, and the ugly. I am addicted to becoming a better artist and human. I love this ride
