Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliana Monroy.
Hi Juliana, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in a small town called Armenia in the country of Colombia. Growing up I was basically the entertainment of the family, in every gathering I would be the one to dance and sing and be center of attention every time. My mom noticed how well I expressed myself and how much I enjoyed it that she then decided to enroll me in dance classes. Some time went by and growing up being on a stage was such an amazing feeling even as a little girl. Later on, my mother and I immigrated from Colombia to the US in hopes of a brighter future. I will always thank my mother for that decision she made to move here because that opened up so many doors. I couldn’t keep off stage, I was in dance studios, even in drill team in high school. Performing was definitely my favorite thing to do. I still danced my way through college but while being in college I discovered a different kind of love while being in front of a camera. I started my modeling career in December of 2020. I had just barely got my Instagram account and I had the pleasure to receive invitations from many different photographers wanting to create content with me. That’s how I ended up modeling for automobiles. Being in front of that camera felt and still feels like modeling is what I am meant to be doing. It feels so unreal and it gives me a sense of belonging. Modeling it’s my one true love.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, I’ve been blessed to experience nothing but the good things when it comes to my modeling career so far. Thankfully it really has been a smooth road for me. However, some struggles that could potentially arise are maybe my height, being 5’3 could be a potential obstacle due to many modeling agencies having height requirements. But I feel like nowadays people have become more open and accepting of different body types which is something great.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a model. I model from cars to truck and also for clothing brands. Instagram is primarily my source of work. I have built my portfolio and I have created amazing content with well-distinguished photographers. What I’m most proud of from my modeling career has definitely been the time when I got to model internationally. In September of 2021, I had the pleasure to shoot in London, England with a published photographer Rodney Pedroza. Definitely a dream come true. What really sets me apart from others is that I am hardworking, charismatic, motivated.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary. This is something I live by. To me, life is all about taking risks. Risk-taking is their essense of innovation, is the door to opportunities. Never be afraid of failure, that’s the best way to learn. I definitely took a risk and a big step by starting my Instagram. If I had never done it, I would’ve not been where I am today, in less than a year I am almost to 30k followers and on TikTok 175k.
