Community Highlights: Meet Robyn Feehan of thegallery8680

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Feehan.

Hi Robyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have art and the passion to work in the arts so when the opportunity came that I was able serve the artists I opened the gallery with my initial show being the students from Collin College in Frisco. From that first show in 2009 thegallery8680 has hosted up to ten shows a year serving the local and surrounding districts artists. the gallery has been recognized by the City of Frisco for it work in the arts in the City of Frisco. The gallery continues to host art exhibitions by reaching out to both emerging and professional artists.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
We have to consistently work and reach out to both artists and the community to continue being able to host our exhibitions. We have been fortunate to be able to host in a space provided to us for a minimal expense and the support of the City of Frisco and the recognition of what we do by the Frisco Arts Foundation. the hardest part is knowing that we continually show beautiful pieces of original art yet the general public are still hesitant to purchase.

We’ve been impressed with thegallery8680, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have chosen business for the gallery although it is more of a service to artists and the community. we are a nonprofit organization providing a place for artist to submit and show their work and a place for the community to purchase original art. the gallery has been exhibiting art since 2009. we have seen a few galleries open and close within our city. As a gallery we are seen as the only gallery in Frisco, and desire to see all artists have the opportunity to show their work, we are unique in the fact that that our sole purpose is to encourage the artist. and share their art to the community. We create themed shows which helps many artists focus on how they want to represent their art within that theme, which can be challenging yet also very rewarding as they find themselves being able to create within that sphere.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
I was about to embark on my college degree when the opportunity arose for me to begin my dream without an arts degree. I was able to just focus and reach out to the then very small community of artists and together we were able to establish the gallery. I have just continued to do all that I can do to reach artists and provide an environment that they are happy to exhibit their work. I think to accomplish anything and to continue with it you have to know the vision and have a passion for what you are doing. I am a person that wants people to have a wonderful experience to create a memory in people’s lives; therefore, what I do is a joy to hang and curate a show that is beautiful and pleasant to the senses. When I started out, I had nine names on a list and ran with the vision and have not stopped since then.
